MLB DReam Bracket Quickstart

Why doesn't the MLB Dream Bracket Quickstart work? Why will no one in the know answer my questions concerning the problem?

The game, in general, is great, but God help you if you have a technical issue. Just silence!

A lot of folks may not play the game that way, so they may not know how to answer, which would probably lead to the silence you're talking about. I certainly don't, so unfortunately I'm not going to be able to help you here. Also, remembering back to my earliest days on here, I've found that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. YMMV. Hopefully this bump will help find someone who can help you.

Sorry for the delay in response.

The most likely reason for the message you are seeing is because the files didn't unzip in the right structure. You need to make that all of the .dat files are under the "data\quickstart_games\MLB_Dream_Bracket.quick " folder, and not accidentally having a second copy of that last folder. So if you have unzipped that way, you can simply select all the files in that subfolder, and then cut and paste them the folder up so that they are in the correct location. I believe if you do that and restart OOTP, the game should be able to correctly find the files and load up the quickstart.

Thank you for the info. where do I find the mentioned data file. I see it no where. Also, your reply is missing some key words that make understanding difficult.

Thank you

If you follow the instructions here: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=315719

The important point is when unzipping the quickstart, to make sure the folder structure is set up correctly so that all the .dat files are in the correct location.

Do you see a folder entitled "All Time Greatest.quick" in there? If yes, go to the start screen of OOTP21, or whatever version you have, and click on "New Quickstart Game", and things should go from there. Make your selections, and click on start game (or whatever it is).

I just took a look at it in my game, and the teams look really cool, from looking at the Orioles. At C is Chris Hoiles, IF of Eddie Murray, Brian Roberts, Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken, and an OF of Ken Williams, Baby Doll Jacobson, and Frank Robinson, with George Sisler at DH. Rotation of Jim Palmer, Mike Mussina, Mike Cuellar, Erik Bedard, and Dave McNally, and a BP of B J Ryan, Tim Stoddard, Gregg Olson, Jim R Johnson, Stu Miller, Dick Hall, Koji Uehara, and Tippy Martinez. 51 players in total in their organization. 52 in my Blue Jays organization, so plenty of players whether you want to use injuries/suspensions or not. A default 30-man active roster, and the rest are on the reserve roster. Of course, you can adjust those settings numbers in the settings.

It also looks to me like you can choose whatever Game Settings, and League Settings you want to use. You can adjust any setting you want, as you would in a normal game. So, check all these things out, and let us know what you see in your game, and report back to this thread. Do that first, and we can go from there.

Those are the instructions I followed originally. Does not work for me. Exactly where is the "correct location" for the .dat files?

Thank you,

I have nothing in the "All Time Greatest.quick". Is that where the file is to be unzipped? If so, the instruction are incorrect. I am trying to load the Dream Bracket, not the All Time Greatest.

You need to make sure that when things are unzipped, they look like these attached images, and then you should be able to create a new quickstart from them.

There should be three files in there: An "All-Greatest.quick" zip file, a "description" text file, and a "reset_picture_info.flag" flag file. If they aren't in there, that could be where your problem is coming from, but I've never used this feature, and they were there for me. I did not have to do anything with any of these three files to load up the game. I just checked to see if there was anything in the quick_start games folder, and that's what I found. On the OOTP start screen click on "New Quickstart Game", and you should be able to get what you're looking for.

I believe this particular quickstart has been around for quite a while. Mine goes back to at least OOTP13. I don't have OOTP11 and 12 on my machine right now, but it goes back at least eight versions, so it should be there, and like I said, I've never even looked at it until now. It does look like a really cool feature though, so I hope you can get it loaded up, and start playing it.

I'm an idiot. I thought you were looking for All Time Greatest. My mistake. I guess properly reading posts before trying to answer them helps. I do not have the MLB Dream Bracket Quickstart, but it sounds like you downloaded it from Add-Ons Central. Is that correct? A great way to use Add-Ons Central is to Download the file, and then have it install the file, all from within Add-Ons Central. I've found that to be idiot proof over the years, and it's saved me many times from having to mess around with trying to figure out what to do with the .zip file in my

Documents > Out of the Park Developments > OOTP Baseball 20 > addons > downloads

folder. Check to see if it's hanging out in that folder, and extract it into your quickstart_games folder. I hope that works, because beyond that I've got nothing.

My file structure does not include a "data" file. The "quick_start games' folder is not in a data folder.

Of course you are not an idiot! You were just trying to help which I really appreciate. The MLB Dream Bracket has to be d/l from a message listed in the forum. I have done all that, but it just does not work. Very frustrating as I am normally able to solve these issues.

That is the data folder. You need to unzip the downloaded file in the quickstart_games folder.

As for making sure the dat files are in the right location, that will depend a little on exactly what program and method you use to unzip. Sometimes things will unzip with an extra folder, but you just want to make sure that quickstart_games/MLB Dream Bracket.quick/world.dat line up like that, and that there doesn't end up being a second MLB Dream Bracket.quick folder in that path.
