Retained Salary Issue?
I traded for JT Realmuto in the offseason after the 2020 season, negotiating a trade in which the Phillies would retain 30% of his salary. I'm now in March, progressing through Spring Training, but when I look at the salaries page, Realmuto is still listed as making his ful amount, without an R next to his name as the game/manual indicate there should be. I don't see him still listed on the Phillies salaries page either.
I double checked the trade log and it does indicate that 30% will be retained next to his name but this is the only place I've managed to find that reflected in game so far. Have I just not waited long enough? Will the correct contract info be "updated" once the season officially starts or has something gone wrong somehow? Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Thank in advance for any help or clarification. EDIT: I've just gone and checked some examples of AI trades in which there is some salary retained and it is reflected on the salary page properly. Is my trade just bugged for some reason and how can I go about fixing this manually? Last edited by nyctomek; 05-25-2020 at 05:13 AM. |

After the season but before the new year and preseason? If so then he is already paid for that year. Is he actually under contract for the next season? Default setup he is in the last year of his deal.

I had a similar issue in which I traded for a guy in early November. Because the year hadn't turned over, the retained salary was for the year just completed, and I was on the hook for the following year. But that was a league minimum contract. Realmuto should be on a multi-year deal, so the 30% should apply to every year remaining on his contract.

Also original team is never on the hook for team options only player options but the majority of players opt out.

On 6/12/2020, he signed an extension with the Phillies that will see him earn $29.4m for the 2021 season, $31.5m for 2022. After 2022, there is a player opt out clause. If he doesn't use it, he will earn $31.5m until 2024. I'm going all in to win the WS in the next 2 years after losing the WS in 2020, so I didn't mind taking on the salary WITH the 30% retention. I made the trade on 11/08/2020 assuming it'd be for the life of his new contract but it's as if the retention never happened here in March of 2021 and I think it's because the new contract hadn't technically "kicked in yet". Ugh, should've waited until the year ticked over... |

When you were on the trade screen, it indicates the money you are responsible for, broken down by year. Was this done in this case? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
