GIMP Issue

I've used GIMP for years to make my logo backgrounds transparent but lately the same process isn't working. This is a new version of GIMP, it seems to out sophisticated me.

Anyone with similar experience with GIMP and/or a better free tool to make backgrounds transparent please?

Thanks.

I was using Gimp but started to have some problems using it with my Mac. Switched to Paint (Paint S) and am loving it. Very simple after the learning period.

What process are you using? My process of adding a transparent background and using the fuzzy select tool has been working for awhile now. I'm using GIMP 2.10.12 so if it's after that I'm not sure.

The newer verison of GIMP did change things up. First you have to add alpha channel (see below).Follow that up by Color to Alpha (see below)

paint.net works np. wand to select, then 'delete'.

OOTP is what started me on working with images. I actually make maps for a living most time the files I work with are like svgs but sometimes they are .tiff or .jpeg files in sometimes I may I have edit a scanned map or historic map.I actually used the skills I learned with OOTP and applied to my work. That being said in process I've become pretty efficient in GIMP. But recently I've moved onto Affinity Photo. They had a trial (might be still going on) for 90 days because the state of our world right now. I find it pretty easy to work with and the upscaler is pretty good. I might just buy it when the trial is done which a 30 dollar one time purchase.
