Quickstart: The Upper Peninsula Baseball Alliance

This is a mixed fictional and real player league with 32 teams (2 sub-leagues, 2 8-team divisions each) and 3 levels of minors set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Version 21 is mandatory, and Challenge Mode is on. The league is set to start at 1/1/35, and is ready for an Inaugural Draft of fictional players. Both fictional and historically real players enter the drafts thereafter. Real players enter as they did in history. Nobody who debuted pre-1935 gets in...sorry. Be warned—this is a HUGE download, 5.93 GB at my last check. Enjoy baseball the way it was meant to be played—in April...and in the snow!

1. Some manual installation is required due to game limitations.
A—There is a replacement world_default.xml file included. It contains 275 additional Upper Michigan towns and places. Installation is optional, but if you want the game to recognize these places...you need it.
B—Place the Quickstart in your quickstarts folder.
C—All 128 stadiums have been assembled in the Ballpark Construction Kit. There is a folder of new fields. Installation is required in your fields folder (inside the construction kit folder).
D—There is a folder of .sc files which must be placed into the construction kit folder—the files, not the folder.
E—There are .prk files for all the stadiums. Place them wherever your .prk files are stored. Installation is optional.
F—There are 2d pictures for all the ballparks. Place them in your ballparks folder. Resolution is approximately 3450x2075. Installation is optional.
G—Home and away jerseys and caps are included. Installation is optional.
H—The new Skyboxes must be installed in your skybox folder (inside the Ballpark Construction Kit). Weird **** might go on if the game doesn't find them and you're using the 3d stadiums. You've been warned... Oh, yeah...and you can then use these skyboxes as backdrops for your own creations, and there are 20+ included, some good, some not so useful for big league parks. I've had to grab what's free for non-commercial use from online and do my best. I don't have $3400 for a 3d camera...sorry—I love the game, but I have a budget as well.
I—Use the provided schedule. There are no night games. Pretend you're at Wrigley.
J—There is a world template included, but it is untested—I lack a second machine to test this on. The .lg file is a straight copy from my saved games, so it works.

2. All of the places are or were real. All of the stadiums are fictional. All of the teams and stadiums try to in some way connect to the history or character of the towns they represent. The leagues and awards are all UP connected as well. If you're a history buff, or just curious, the UP has some great color and history.

3. At some point, I want to expand this into northern Wisconsin, northern Minnesota, Ontario, and Lower Michigan. When that happens, I'll add 2 lower levels of minors and reposition teams as needed.

4. I also want to add my own custom pix from the areas. We're under a fairly rigorous lockdown here for now, so this is a 'when I can' project. Also, the UP is freaking huge, and the drive time alone will be staggering. For example, Grayling (my home) to Ontonagon is a 6 hour drive each way. As time goes by and more park bodies and OF sectors are posted, I will most certainly be updating the stadiums. All of this will happen as Mrs. Cobb and my two Blue Heelers, Na'Toth and G'Kar, allow me to.

5. I'm not big on the financial aspects. If you want to do this...knock yourself out. I've basically ignored it.

6. Questions, comments, suggestions, criticism? I'm often on the forums, or you can reach me at kinrossflyers@outlook.com.

7. Legally wise info: I snagged all the custom images from various sources online that said they were free for 'non-commercial use.' I'm not selling this, and I didn't claim to have created them...so if it's your copyright and you want it removed...let me know.

8. Draft pick trading is on. Owner goals are disabled. The 10/5 rule is off. Suspensions are off. League evolution is off as well. The rest...enjoy finding out.

9. Most important of all, thanks to the Development Team for this fine product, and to all the trailblazing modders whose names you see littering the forums with their wisdom and advice. No names, because I'd be sure to forget someone...but thank you all. You guys inspired me.

After taking all the right steps to start up your league, OOTP tells me "Could not create league folder" for the QS. I have never gotten this message in all the quick starts I have loaded. Any ideas? That is all the error message says.

And when I go to add the .lg file to my saved games folder, nothing pops up in my in game list. I close and reopen OOTP and still nothing.

This is really bizarre.

Edit:

Seems like I have a lack of disk space. All 3 of my saved league files get these weird error messages about "Could not initialize sqlite database" and the "Click ok to save the current file in a incident file" and "potentially damaged file, due to lack of disk space" all errors happen in OOTP, not externally. No crashes. So this might be a me problem Ty Cobb. Idk.

A few other games have been having error problems with file stuff like this, I guess I have to dig and look at my storage on my computer, might be full.

Edit 2:

Disregard this entire post. I fixed the problem. My security was up on this game and blocking OOTP related downloads and files being moved and created. I have no clue how that happened.

I'll be checking out your cool league Ty! Thanks for the hard work!

Thank you so much! I'm a little unhappy with some of the skyboxes (trees too big for real life, things like that), but I'm currently working on a pack of 103 more. It'll take some time, though. Mrs. Cobb and the puppies, y'know. They'll be much more appropriate for backdrops.

Nice! I actually started a Michigan Town Ball League in 21 with UP and LP teams. Your project is clearly of interest to me. Thanks for posting!
