Want to Play as 1989 - What am I Doing Wrong?

So, I like to play with real major league teams/systems but with totally fictional players. I also want to play with financial and league modifiers as 1989. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

Well, this is my third attempt, and this time I just decided not to take a job and replay the entire year with these modifiers. According to the game itself, the league avg should be ~ .254/.322/.375. In real life, 1989 saw 3083 homeruns.

I just ran my first year with 1989 and I get the following: .238/.331/.408 with 6269 homeruns. 43020 strikeouts. 1989 RL was 23650.

It seems it's totally ignoring my request to play with league norms set around 1989 and going full bore with 2019. I don't get it. This is the third time I've tried this. Anyone have a clue as to what I'm doing wrong as I've never had this trouble before with any previous versions.
