Bulk moving free agents to a team?

I am looking to do an experiment that would require all MLB players moved to free agency at the start of a modern save and then I would move groups of them at one time to specific teams I choose. Is this possible? I notice that selecting multiple players and right clicking them provides no option to move them to a team, even in Commish Mode. Hoping there is some other way to do this?

Thanks!

Hey everyone, just an FYI I figured out how to do it. The key was eliminating the financial system entirely. Doing so provides the option to sign players in bulk when acting as a team.

Thank you everyone for the dialogue! I'm gonna post a write-up of the experiment I'm doing, should be fun!

Perhaps the issue is that you first need to "Act as" a particular team. For example, if you want to sign a group of free agents to the Dodgers, you first need to go to your Manager menu and select "Act as" the LA Dodgers. Then, after you select your group of free agents and right-click on any one of the ones selected, the pop-up will include the option of signing the players.

Hi, thank you for the reply! However, I don't see this as the case. I made all MLB players free agents, Acted as a team, and I get no option other than to add them to a shortlist, retire or delete, or offer minor league contract.

Hmm. Not sure. Just be clear, you're doing this?

1. From your manager dropdown, select "Act as..." and then you are selecting a team. So if you then go to the manager dropdown again, it will then include - second to the bottom - "Act as... (Currently: XXX)" ... where XXX is the abbreviation for the team you selected.

2. You're then going to your League dropdown (might be titled "MLB" - or whatever the abbreviation is for your league), selecting Transactions from the menu, and then clicking on the Free Agents tab.

3. Then you are selecting - via the radio buttons on the far left - multiple players.

4. Then you are hovering over one of the players and right-clicking.

The pop-up menu should look something like this:

3 PLAYERS
Shortlist >
Sign Players
Clone Players
Retire Players
Delete Players

No?

Yeah, I do all those steps but I don't get an option to sign a player:

I'm thinking it has to be some setting, somewhere. Have you tried setting up a very generic historical game, just to test it out? If not, use the historical wizard to set up a game. Don't change any of the defaults except I'm assuming you'll need to be in Commissioner mode, and see if it works...

You cannot "Mass Select" and assign to a team. That can only be done 1 player at a time and is done from the Player Editor tab.

Half way down left side you can select a league and team to place the player on. You can edit his service time, contract etc here also.

The only other thing I can think of trying ( and I don't know if it would work because I have never tried it) would be to export the csv files and see if you can assign players in mas bunches there somehow.

You can. I just loaded up a test league, set my "Act as" to Baltimore, went to the free agents list and mass-selected the first three guys listed - Norm Charlton, Bob Patterson, and Tony Fossas. I right-clicked and signed all three players at once and they are now in the Orioles minor league system.

Perhaps I am misinterpreting what the original poster is trying to do, and thus what you are saying can't be done?

That is exactly what I am trying to do, except I only get the option to "offer minor league contract" not to automatically sign them to a team. I am in Commish Mode and Acting as a team (as seen in screenshot above).

Export the league to a .csv file then you can edit a lot easier
Reimport when done

The difference here is, you "signed" the players.

What I'm saying is, "assigning" them to a team. As in, just placing them on a team without signing them.

I thought that is what the OP was trying to do - just assign a group of players to a team.

Apologies for misunderstanding.
