Rating vs Price
I'm fairly new to the game, been playing a month or so. I'm wondering about the discrepancy sometimes between a player's rating and his price in the Auction House. Is the price more reflective of his value or the rating? I didn't know if the price was maybe higher because of missions, as I see all the Negro League players' price is sky high.
Any help appreciated! |

Prices don´t always reflect the game play value of a card. Like you mentioned, missions have a huge influence on card values, which bring about rather impressive prices for less than impressive cards.
Another factor, which is kind of the opposite of the mission effect, is if the player is mentioned here on the forums. Every season folks start discussing which cards are much more productive than their overall ratings may indicate and of course the prices soon begin to rise. And rise. And rise. The trick is to jump on those cards quickly before prices rise. And rise. But beware, I suspect, though I can´t prove anything, that some people have in the past mentioned how good a card is in order to artificially raise the price of a card they´ve already listed. A nifty little trick, actually, though ethically it leaves much to be desired. ![]() And then there are people who wish to take advantage of new players by putting unrealistic prices on star names that are not star cards. For example I´ve seen Sandy Koufax irons listed for tens of thousands, when in reality the card has little real game value at all (unless of course you really enjoy giving up three run homers).

How do missions affect the price/value of a card?

It could be how big the mission reward is, for instance Eddie Cicotte could go for 40,000 just because you need 2 cards to complete his mission, but when there are small rewards of say 2 packs then the prices aren't likely to be more than a couple thousand.
