1890 Players League
Was looking last night to start a historical season with the 1890 players league however the only league that comes up for 1890 is Major League Baseball, though I've been told that OOTP does have the players league,I am having trouble locating it in game, any thoughts?

It's not there, so you can stop looking. The way OOTP handles the nineteenth century is a mess, so I don't really bother with it any more. The set-up is ahistorical - it imagines a world where the NL and AL both started in 1871. Historical players are all included, but they're not on their historical rosters (iirc, you must start with a rookie draft in order to populate the rosters, no matter what year you start).
So the players who were part of the Players League are in the game. The Players League, however, isn't. |

On the positive side, it's noteworthy that - with the way that OOTP now handles minor leagues - the potential to more-closely handle pre-1901 major leagues as per history is definitely there. True, that minor leagues still need work, but it's close, and hopefully we'll see better minors and better pre-1901 majors in a new version of OOTP.

It may automatically happen when more minor league data comes in.
It goes back to 1910, and when I was playing a really big game from 1871-1980, I noticed that the Federal League blinked into existence in 1914 and out after 1915. I'm not sure if they were affiliated to any club. But if minor league (true, Players and Federal are considered major leagues by historians) data eventually goes back further, we may see OOTP just start creating it. A lot of that isn't OOTP though, that's SABR research. It didn't create the drama of an outlaw league trying to muscle in on the established leagues turf, but that's a whole different thing that would have to be coded. That data isn't completely lost, but it can be very spotty. This is a pic from my copy of the 1900 Sporting News Guide showing the 1899 Connecticut League. I have a research book that shows home run leaders from the same league and BBRef has more, so there is data out there, with a lot of research. And yes, that is Hall of Famer Roger Connor and namesake of the Cleveland Indians Louis Sockalexis.
