Weather

I am a Chicago Cub fan and my cousin is a Chicago White Sox, I have played between 200-300 games in Chicago and my cousin has played way more than me.

Even though we are playing in the Windy City rarely less than 1% of the time is there wind and as of yet no effects of the wind. Yes, it has rained in a few games but none of them have been rained out.

Is there a problem with my settings or the game?

It’s hard to program reality. And unfortunately, people here would rather have devs make them a “realistic” projections sheet of anaytical data for every stat under the sun instead of hammering out simpler things like rain and wind.

Chicago is not winder than most cities. By most accounts, the nickname “The Windy City” comes from all the “hot air” blowing from corrupt politicians in the city.

I lived in Chicago for 25 years and assure you that it's real windy near Lake Michigan. It is true, nonetheless, that the nickname arose after the 1860 Republican national convention as a reference to the delegates' windy oratory.

It's simple enough to edit ballpark characteristics if one feels that the winds are too mild in the local stadiums.

Something else I noticed about the in game weather:

I have 3 teams in Chicago (several other cities have multiple teams).

On the same day, at the same time, one Chicago game is rained out and the other 2 are beautiful non threatening weather.

The game should have bad weather in the same cities/areas o the same days.

Having lived in the Chicagoland suburbs most of my life, this actually sounds pretty accurate.

What do you mean there is wind less than 1% of the time? Do you mean literally 0 mph wind >99% of the time? That would indeed be very odd.

He said he's a Cubs fan, so I'm assuming he's playing a lot of games at Wrigley. Wind impacts that park more than just about any park in baseball. It's like two different stadiums depending on which way the wind is blowing.

I don't know much about Chicago, but I've certainly lived in cities where I've had one type of weather and someone I knew who lived in a different part had different weather.

Expecting OOTP to model national weather seems...like something farther down on my personal list of improvements

That’s fair, you’re correct about Wrigley.

No. The weather settings are derived from modern conditions, and these days games are rarely rained out. The Dodgers, in fact, have never had a rain-out at Dodger Stadium. If you want a wetter league, check out my "It's Usually Sunny in Philadelphia" mod, linked in my signature.

Snopes would rule that "Not Proven." Although the popular story is that New York journalists started calling Chicago "the Windy City" because of the city's politicians boasting about the World's Fair of 1893, there's evidence that people were calling it "the Windy City" long before that, and they were referring to the wind, not to politicians. It's true that Chicago isn't as windy as some cities, like San Francisco, but it can still get pretty breezy.

That would be ideal, but currently the game can't tell where teams are located in relation to each other. It determines the weather on a game-by-game basis, not a city-by-city basis. Still, there have been times where the Cubs get rained out in the afternoon and the White Sox play in the evening. The ballparks are about eight miles apart - it's not like the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium, which were right across the river from each other.
