surprised there was zero hoopla

Big career, no mention of his having retired.

Could it be that it is because he played his last season in the minors?

I haven't played the current version long enough to know, but in prior versions yes, the career lines were goofed up when a player changed leagues late in his career. I thought it was because I had many independent leagues but maybe it happens with years in the minors too. Anyway it's easy to manually induct guys into the HoF, retire numbers, and so on, and I never feel bad doing it.

Actually, I switched cities as Albuquerque became Toronto and, yes, Toronto did retire his number. Another interesting development was the fact that no one signed him as a free agent forever and Toronto invited him back to play on their AAA affiliate where he finished his career.

One poor season and that was all she wrote.

I always noticed in previous versions Hall of Fame caliber players finishing their careers in the minors for one sometimes two seasons. Sabathia, Beltran, Beltre etc...
I always found that to be very unrealistic. Hopefully 21 tightened that up
