What to look for in pitching
I got a 100 Verlander in a pack and he is getting shelled every time out. After 9 starts his ERA is over 9, I have a 96 Strasburg and 93 Mussina getting lit up as well.
What should I be looking for when looking to get better pitching? |

Non Live cards. I have a 100 DeGrom who is less effective than my 69 Viola.

Mussina is a decent card. What league level are you playing? How good is your defense? Defensive ratings can make a difference.

But yes, high-rated Non-live pitchers are the best. Collection mission Randy Johnson, Blyleven, Carlton, Lyons, and Mussina should be solid unless you are in the highest levels.

I significantly upgraded my defense and Verlander continues to get lit up, I don't get it.

Because of the low movement rating

Yea because he's an extreme flyball pitcher with crappy movement, he gives up tons of dingers. He's only useful if you make your ballpark huge and even then he'll get shelled whenever he pitches on the road. He's just not a good card at all. That 100 is very misleading.

The live mission rewards are tearing a hole in most pitchers

Your Verlander card would be better used if you dumped it for 20K quick sale and then choose one from a number of pitchers that can help you with the proceeds of the sale.

Certain types of pitchers work better for certain types of teams. There was a thread about Saberhagen a while back which discussed this.
As others have said, the quality of your infield vs outfield defense and the ball park you play in have an impact. If you are using control guys, you really need solid infielders.

100% agree Kushiel. For 20k you can beef up your rotation pretty well.
