Only one Bagwell on that list for my conference. Not my Bagwell obviously. Everybody else's Bagwell always does way better than mine. I think I got a defective Bagwell; hell, he's been below 100 OPS+ the last 2 seasons. Is there a warranty?

On the other hand Nap Lajoie is making an early run at the triple crown. Sitting in third in average (trailing by 0.012), tied for second in home runs (trailing by 1), and second in RBIs at 55 (6 back of the leader). Also leading in WAR and runs.

Naturally, Sir, as it's a Special Edition Mr Bagwell, he is not covered by your current warranty plan...

@JasonC23

My apologies for Nap Lajoie being so awesome, what with his game where he hit for the cycle by going 5 for 5 with 4 RBIs and an extra double to boot.

A Fistful of Diamonds

Well, not really. If you are supposed to get 1 diamond every 30 cards [EDIT: packs], then I'm 2 behind schedule. I had a few regular packs to open for warm-up before the Diamond Packs, and I got the 2 diamonds I was behind!

Live Lucas Giolito and the diamond I predicted.....

Arriving at the Diamond Packs, we get a duplicate …..

Yasmani Grandal

and finally an historical diamond: Charlie Buffinton, a 19th century pitcher for the Beaneaters and the Quakers. I guess that's why no team logo. He is immediately my 2nd best pitcher after Maddux.

Saw I got a 3,000 PP Balanced Offense bonus for scoring every inning of a game, and went "man, that must've been a blowout; let's see what happened there." Turned out? It wasn't much of a blowout at all.

Paragon City Heroes 52-30 4 game lead 2nd best record in conference. For a team with a lot of decent hitters we rely heavily on pitching and D. Our offensive strategy is getting on base (2nd in league at .335) and hitting homers (2nd in league at 119). Berkman wasn't cutting it so brought in SE Gehrig late in the last month at DH, 6HR in 58AB so far is a nice return. Added Ricky Bottalico to the pen

San Angeles 70s 42-38 1/2 game back in division, 8 games back in WC. Made some changes as I found SE Billy Williams in my inactive players (i bid 5k on him between seasons and with the downtime forgot) so he comes in at DH. Chet Lemon picked up for 7k to play CF. Boog Powell is 2nd in the league in RBI.

Lowdown Lugnuts 47-36 14 1/2 games back 5 1/2 games up in WC. weird unbalanced league, several whales. Continue to tinker with the team, brought in Clay Buchholz as the 5th starter and he went 5-0 with 1.08 era and 1.08 whip despite 3.9BB/9 he just doesn't give up homers and a 3.83 FIP shows how much the D helps out. Bought Pete Reiser to play LF vsR (got him for 10k, his L7 was 21k, lucky or shenaningans?)

Season is definitely looking better than last season, and all teams currently moving up (which may not be a good thing, but we'll see what happens)

At the halfway point of the season and the Slipnutz are holding the first wild card spot at 46-35. Already 20 games out of first in the division so my prediction of this being their ceiling has come true.

MVPs of the first half have been Nellie Fox with his usual flawless defense and a .306/.369/.434 line at the top of the lineup, and Eddie Mathews, the conference batter of the month for April who's kept up the pace with a .300/.386/.574 line.

Yu Darvish has led the pitching staff with an 11-1 record and 3.17 ERA (134 ERA+). The bullpen has been a different story, ranking only 10th in the conference in ERA. Former starter Mike Clevinger was a surprise in the setup role so I gave him a shot at the closer job, replacing Craig Kimbrel, only to see him implode, explode, and combust all at once.

Pulled a live Freddie Freeman from a regular pack and sold him for some extra change. When all is said and done the points I got from him should finish up the NL East and earn me a nice Steve Carlton to hopefully pitch that wild-card game.

At the half way mark, Collingwood is leading its division by 22 games and has the best record in the conference, although maybe not for long. The Alabama Farmers who began the season as a very mediocre team have finished the live missions AND have Cap Anson (96) at 3B making them overall probably stronger than the Magpies. Charlie Buffinton debuted for Collingwood against Alabama and did OK, but the game was lost 3-0. I made a "purchase" in the AH, acquiring Nolan Arenado (100) to play 3B. I put purchase in quotes because I can always quicksell the card for what I paid, but is hardly comparable to Anson. Let's try, anyway.

Yesterday I played Heinsohn Supercap 1777, and was fortunate enough to actually win the thing... These tournaments brings a completely different dynamic and adds up to an already brilliant PT version.

The most fun I had was actually assembling the team... The only complain is that a best of series in a 128 team makes for a long long tournament.

Here's the reward, which should make for an amazing defensive OF:

White Tigers and Sun Kings both had the highest voted all-star (Lajoie and Yasztremski, respectively). White Tigers had 4 all-stars, Sun Kings had 7, 5 of whom led their position in voting. Black Knights had 5, including the top 2 starting pitchers and - this is kinda nuts - both catchers (Piazza and Kendall). Piazza didn't even join the team until May 28th and Kendall isn't starting anymore, but they have a .989 and .947 OPS respectively.

Also the Black Knights are 2 White Sox and a Yankee away from finishing the live missions, hopefully I can pull that off before the playoffs.

All star break teams situation:

Angels: 52-44, 3 games lead. Good season so far, addition of Lindor and some pitchers during the offseason helped this team a lot . Open a Gold pack during the AS break: Morton and Hilton Smith in this pack. Morton to the bullpen and Hilton Smith in the AH (40k + I can't keep it at this price tag).

Expos: 49-49, 5 game back in division, 1/2 game back in WC. Added Jeff Fassero to the team last month. Team is ok but lack something. MVP so far: two players
are tied: Hubie Brooks (.307 15 hr, 52 Rbi) and Andres Galarraga (.299 22hr 60 Rbi).

Tiger King
: 48-52, 15 games back. Team had an awful first month to begin the season but they improve slowly each month since that. Addition of Tug Mcgraw and Chris Martin in the bullpen help a little to improve the team. MVP so far: Freddy Sanchez (.331 3 hr 58 Rbi).

I wonder how many gypsy women's black cats Mel Ott ran over while riding his pennyfarthing bicycle drunk and naked to get all the way to the All Star Game on a .185 BABIP.

G310: Now That's More Like It

The Huntley Red Raiders have not been playing well this month, blowing the division lead by getting swept by its pursuer earlier in the month and then stumbling out of the gate after the All-Star break by losing 4 of 5.

But--with apologies to Warhawk--this helps a little.
