FOF7/8 Historical Draft Files, 1983-2019

https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/f...r7bMtid06yhphE

Here you'll find files for FOF7, FOF8 and the CSV files I used to make them. Also here are the tools I created to make them. Included are players from the NFL, CFL, AAF, XFL, USFL, UFL, WLAF and it’s successor, NFL Europe from the years 1983-2019. As there is an 800 player minimum for the files, there is some filler. These filler players are made up of college players from those years who never played pro football.

I've tested them enough to verify that each file works and testing is ongoing with ratings and balance, but they should be usable. If you disagree with the ratings, feel free to edit the drafts as you see fit. Enjoy!

You sir are amazing!

Time to start an '82 league and roll into the '83 draft.

Question. Why '83 and no earlier? You may have addressed this earlier and I missed it.

Personally, the '83 draft is the one that defined the NFL for me during my youth. Marino, Kelly, Elway, Dickerson, Dent, etc. Plus the USFL debuted that year, and I've always felt those guys deserved more attention.

1969-1982 might be the next project, but records get spottier the further back you go.

Agreed, detailed information is harder to come by. The consolidation of the NFL and AFL would be great, then again it would only really work with configurable leagues. Again, appreciate the work you put into this.

@Wudu (or anyone else who can answer)

I asked you in the other thread how to use these in FOF8 and I hate to ask again, but I'm still a bit confused and was hoping you could explain to me again, step by step, like I'm a 5-year-old...

For example, I would like to start a league in 2002 w/ a rookie Julius Peppers on the Panthers and go from there.

Which files do I need to use during league creation and how do I import them? I don't want to change anything in the files that I don't have to change. I just want to import and go.

I actually still have the 1960 roster file and draft classes leading up to I believe 2014 I would have to check again but it will fill the void to 1960 at least.

You'll actually need on of the other pieces to the puzzle, the roster file from that year. I have some from Nildor's files that were made some years ago covering FOF7 1960-2013, I'll put them in the google drive. It takes a few changes to adapt those to the FOF8 format, but I've taken the liberty of changing over 2002 to FOF8.

To use the files, do this:

1. Start a new game and make sure the top option "Begin game using alternate player file" is set to "Yes". Set the other options on this page to your liking and click "submit".

2. The game will prompt you to chose a player file, choose the FOF8 2002.fdt file. This will put you in the year 2002, after the amateur draft.

3. Next year, just before you start free agency there will be a button that says "Import Draft" at the top. This is the only time you can import a custom draft, so make sure you put it on your checklist of things to do before free agency.

4. Press the "Import Draft" button and it will prompt you to select the season you wish to import. First one would we be 2003.faf.

That's it!

1960 Roster with 1961-2013 draft classes

I have also included draft files from 2015-2019 in the .rar but do not believe they will work for fof8, but feel free to try to make them work or use the already finished files to convert them to fof8.

I have the salary set up for 1960 already, but you'll need to change how much the salary cap will raise each new deal or the contracts can become rather sizeable within just the '80s-'90s.

Which files are you trying to use? I've uploaded a few, and it occurs to me that all the different types might be confusing.

.CSV files: These are the data in editable form, if you want to make changes yourself. The game itself won't read these, but the applications included with the game that make the draft files and roster files do.

.FAF for FOF7: Draft file for FOF7
.FAF for FOF8: Draft file for FOF8

The versions of the draft files don't work for both years, there were changes in the formats. I've separated them in the release folder by version, so only download those.

.FDT for FOF7: Roster file for FOF7
.FDT for FOF8: Roster file for FOF8

Again, small changes make these non-cross compatible. Currently the roster files I've posted are Nildor's rosters for FOF7, but it's pretty easy to take the .CSV file and convert it to FOF8. You just have to cut off the last few years of contract data (ie, delete every column after CI and run it through the FOF8 Roster application).

If I have some time maybe I'll convert Nildor's to FOF8. He deserves all the credit in the world for those. Roster files take so much more time and nuance than draft files.

Thanks that clarifies it! I was trying to use FAF instead of the FDT.

Does player age make a difference? I started a new save and imported the 1983 draft. When previewing the draft I opened Dan Marino's page and he's 53. A little old for a rookie QB haha

I'm going to have to assume your in game year wasn't 1983. The file doesn't have "drafted age" just "birth year", and for Marino, it's 1961.

I tossed together a conversion of Nildor's 1983 rosters with a $25M salary cap. Check the FOF8/Nildor's Rosters directory in the link above.

Convert?

Been loving these files, can you provide a guide for converting the FOF7 rosters to FOF8? I'd be happy to assist others in getting the old rosters updated but I haven't been able to find a guide.

Thanks!

Looks like deleting the columns CJ through CN allows you to use the PlayerFile.exe to generate a fof8 roster, not sure what info I might be losing, but it's at least a start.

Yep, you just have to cut off those last few years of player contract data. That will make it work, but you'll likely see some differences in the long snapper players. FOF8 looks for pos #17, which FOF7 doesn't.
