Has anyone tried the beta patch to see if this has changed there at all? We did make some draft related adjustments there, especially to positions getting taken. Not 100% sure it fixes pitchers vs. batters specifically though, so would be interesting to hear from someone who had the issue.

Lukas, appreciate you looking into this. I just tried a new draft out (version 21.3.45). First round still has only 9 of 29 draft picks being position players. The balance just seems off to me. Anytime I test, I usually get these results.

Will try this after the playoffs (In my league the draft is in november)

Thanks!

Not sure if it is linked, but in my last draft the "scouting director recommendation" was for me to take a SP in all 35 rounds. I checked there was no setting forcing that, it just seemed to be what the AI wanted.

My first draft since installing the Beta patch. Certainly not any better. The first 10 picks were all pitchers. After that the split between pitchers and batters seems pretty even.

I couldn't find an obvious example of the AI taking a pitcher over an obviously superior batting prospect. There were certainly some picks like that according to my scout's ratings, but the OSA ratings were closer and I don't know what that team's scout is telling them. This was also a fairly weak draft pool with no obvious great hitting prospects.

One huge improvement I did notice from pre-Beta drafts is far fewer low rated prospects demanding above slot bonuses. Thanks you to the developers for that.

For the same draft in my previous post, here is the draft pool sorted by potential rating from my scout and from OSA.

Just tried the new patch, standard set up, no changes. Ugh, only 10 out of 29 position players in the first round. Very pitching dominated still. The draft played out exactly how it did before. Wonder if anyone will look into fixing this. Hard to play a long term save with the draft being this messed up.

Jumping in because I'm seeing an issue with equity in my historical league draft. The year is 1985 and the fictional draft class has only 10 position players selected. From picks 10 to 26, 15 of 17 selections are starting pitchers. Either something is off in terms of hitter prospects being produced OR something is off in terms of the AI always choosing pitchers over hitters. Help!!!!

Something IS VERY WRONG with the draft. Not only were 21 of 30 players pitchers in my last draft, but look at the team who picked 1st. The Minnesota Twins drafted only 1 position player out of 35 rounds. The Chicago Cubs only picked 8 position players out of 35 rounds. Why are teams so fixated on pitchers in the draft in OOTP 21?!?!

I have made some changes to my PCMs and am getting the following results with my draft now (16 team league ony).

These are the PCMs I used for this.

But you shouldn't have to touch pcm for a major league it defaults to 1 for a reason. You are slightly debuffing all created pitchers by lowering their pcm's. That shouldn't be a fix.

Hopefully they can find the glitch and/or bug and hotfix it.

No you should not have to touch the PCMS.

But until they take a look at it, I am preferring what I see. A lot less dominant pitchers in the league. And I am not seeing a league wide raise in ERA or AVG.

Completely agree. This draft logic is a known issue for the OOTP Devs that just needs to be fixed. Changing PCMs is going to completely dilute the pitching for upcoming seasons and cause an issue for pitchers not developing. Hence, not solving the major issue. CPU controlled teams just are not valuing Fielders in the draft.

Latest patch installed (Version 21.3.45)
Default MLB setup, simmed into the future
21 starting pitchers drafted in the first round
Some teams drafted almost all pitchers for the entire 35 rounds

I encourage anyone to look at their latest draft. You may be very surprised as to what you find. I found from rounds 28 to the end in my league EVERY pick is a relief pitcher. I have had to stop my current save because of this major issue. I run default settings. Wouldn't want anyone to lose a beloved league due to a glitch.

In my most recent draft, rounds 31-35 were all pitchers (most of them starters).

There is definitely something wrong.

It’s because the draft runs out of position players.

I guess we need to hold off on advancing to a draft pool release until this is fixed

It's weird, because some leagues seems they take too many pitchers, some too many hitters.

So definitely something still not quite right for sure. We'll make it a focus to take a longer look at this during the next week.
