Does anyone else seem to have an unusually bad 2021 draft class too?

Top draft picks always pitchers
I tested this in my franchise. The majority of the time an SP was #1, but the rest of the draft has been like 65% position players. Only 10 years of evidence but still.
I’m fine with SPs going 1 more frequently, because an ace is so rare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Still seeing it... it is possible there’s something in my settings causing this?

And by “it” I meant the dearth of position players. The first rd of the draft again is looking like 25/30 picks as pitchers.

Just ran a 2021 draft last night and noticed this. In real life anyway, the 2021 class should have a lot of good hitters available towards the top (https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/...rt=-1,1&type=0) but i didn't even see the top hitting prospect (Luke Leto - SS) in the class. Neither were the top pitchers in Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter. I had the first overall pick (O's) and was all set to select either Rocker or Leiter but they aren't there. The players that were at the top of the draft class, are players I have never even heard of, I'm not even sure if they were real players or not. Granted, i only looked through that link from FanGraphs and didn't do an overall search through other publications, but I found that really odd. Is there something wrong with the 2021 class in this game? I'm hesitant to advance forward in my leagues if there is an issue, especially with fictional draft classes now.

I'm 23 years into a standard MLB sim I started in ootp20. 16 of the 20 top picks in my amateur draft were pitchers.

Noticing the same issue with pitchers. 14 of top 17 picks in my league are pitchers. Hoping someone can fix this. Seems to be game breaking.

Glad it isn't just me. I am seeing extremely pitcher heavy 1st rounds in the standard MLB leagues. Maybe a developer can see this and investigate. Using the default settings and no feeder league.

is this because the international amateur free agents are broken? for years now there's a bug where international amateurs are almost all hitters, so the game is now "balancing" by creating pitchers for the draft?

I asked about this recently. They said it was by design because most of the high-money international amateurs are position players. It gets balanced out by the random (i.e. free) amateur free agents that your team finds. So, as long as you are using both of those at the same level it shouldn't be causing this.

The next question is whether the ratio of good pitchers to good hitters in the draft pool is off or if the AI is overvaluing pitching in the draft. My impression is its the latter as I don't recall ever looking at the draft pool and thinking it was pitching dominated. I'll check when I get to my next draft pool reveal.

I agree I wish it could be controlled. However, I've created leagues that are fed 100% by the International Amateurs and as long as you are setting the Scouting Discoveries at the same level (i.e. Few, Default, More, A Lot) as the Free Agents you should be fine. Run a test and take a look 25-30 years down the road.

Latest draft, 22 of 31 players selected in the first round were pitchers. I am using the current patch 21.3.45. Almost every test draft looks like this. This makes the game almost unplayable because of how lopsided the incoming talent is. OOTP 21 is an amazing game, my favorite yet. I hope that this glitch can be fixed soon.

The problem with my league is not the lack of good position players but the fact that a 3* SP will almost always be picked before a 4.5* position player... I look forward to this year draft because there is not much good SP in it. I can't believe there will be more SP than position players in the first round this year too

For comparision sake, this is an example of a first round from OOTP 20 (fully updated to final patch). It is more evenly split 50/50 and without the oddities of 10+ pitchers drafted in a row.
