Playing teams from different eras

Hello,

I have not yet played historical exhibition games but if I wanted to pit the 1975 Reds against the 1906 Cubs for example, how does the game engine work to level the playing field (no pun intended)? Does it normalize the statistics to any year of choice? How much of the statistics are normalized?
Lets say I put the Reds against the Cubs and we use 1975 as the base year. Will the Cubs then hit for more homeruns and better batting averages? How about the pitching? I am just curious about how this works as it fascinates me. Currently reading the Hidden Game of Baseball book and wondering if any of those theories in the book are being applied?

On a side note, I used to play APBA with the cards and dice and I used to play cross era tournaments all the time and now I am wondering how fair they were? For example, to pit the 75 Reds against the 06 Cubs with APBA cards you had the power of the Reds against the tough pitching of the Cubs. At that time I did not think anything about it and would have said back then that it was fair. Now I am seeing there needs to be some sort of leveler for going back or forward in time to make it more fair.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks to all for this great game of OOTP and this forum!

I don't think the game has a slope of history built in, and it's won't account for the fact that earlier era pitchers were pacing to pitch longer so they'd likely get hammered by more modern hitters (or have to throw max effort for shorter duration). And I don't think it accounts for the ever-smaller pool of talent the farther back you go in history, so the standard deviation of performance gets bigger (i.e. hitting .390 in 1922 might be the same as .340 today).

My assumption is that you're going to be playing with 1880, 1910, 1940 players whose numbers and associated talent are going to be on par with 2020 players even though hypothetical reality is very different.
