Question Regarding Sharpness

If I decide to only use a sub when a starter gets tired, do I ever run the risk of having a player who gets very little to no playing time losing sharpness?

So in other words does it hurt a player to sit on the bench without getting into a game very often? If not, I feel this is something which should be changed.

My experience says, it will go by the players expectation. If they expect to be a bench player their morale won't take a hit at all.

I dont think he's talking about morale. I mean, will it take a bit for a player to play at his normal level if he sits on the bench for awhile. Like in FM, if a player goes through a lot of rest of really light training for 3 weeks and then plays in a match, he wont play up to his normal playing level.

My understanding is that players on the bench do not get "rusty". A prospect will develop on the bench of a ML team as if he's playing.

Yeah no rust if you are on the active roster. Sometimes you can get by without an injury list nice just play a man down. So that player doesn't get rust even after the injury.

Sometimes needed close to playoffs when minors will be finished and player can't rehab

This doesn’t seem right to me.

1. It creates no incentive to play bench players.

2. I’m not sure this feels realistic...getting meaningful AB is necessary to keep players “game ready”

Just dont have benchwarmers that aren't used regularly. I dont care about the realism in them not having rust, it's just a waste of a roster spot. Platoon starter, pinch hitter, PR/defensive replacement, you have 13 batters, 8/9 start, one is a backup C and plays anyway, if you are NL everyone will pinch hit anyway, if you are AL you can find roles for your 3 bench pieces that provide value to your team.

Even if the players don't rust you can still play them like they do, I don't like when My bench guys go more then 4 days with out playing and I always like my multi position Starting players to at least play their other positions a few times a year.

Yeah its not totally realistic but to me the pros out weigh the cons.

Only time I play my bench is for exhaustion. There is just no game mechanic for the bench. Unless you need your bench to pitch hit or platoon or some reason to play them based on stats/ratings.

But no game mechanic like rust in offseason or after injuries. So I can't be bothered pretending there is a mechanic and playing them.
