Creating players

Getting ready to take my first jump into OOTP. Quick question first - when you create your own players from scratch, say for example some college teams, do you create the players by entering stats (AB, hits, hrs, sb, etc) or is it all done through a rating system instead?

Thanks!

To a certain extent, you can do it either way. When you create a batter, you can enter his batting stats and then click to generate his ratings based on those stats. For baserunning and fielding, you can't enter stats, only ratings.
You can also enter ratings instead of batting stats if you'd like.
For pitchers, it's pretty much the same way. You can enter their basic pitching stats and the game will generate ratings. For stamina and holding runners, you need to enter ratings. You can also edit things like gb/fb tendency, and the types of pitches the pitcher throws. Again, you can enter ratings directly, rather than stats. If you're new to the game, I would definitely recommend entering the stats and letting the game create the player's ratings based on the stats you enter.
Hope this helps.

If you are talking about populating a new game, then new players of various talent levels will be created when you start the game. The game will place them on teams, in a draft pool, or on the free agents list depending on what options you have chosen.

If you are looking to make a player with certain attributes then follow ablobj's directions above.
