Never seen this

Great way to end a game. I was watching this one play out in 3D, and I wondered what happened because the game ended abruptly.

Ahh...I'm glad you posted that screenshot. I've been meaning to ask... What does "location: 2F" mean? Every game log I read says "location: 2F" whenever a foul ball is hit. What the heck does that mean?? And why is it always 2F? And what do those codes on a base hit mean? In the OP's pic "89XD"...What is that?

Did the play by play explain what happened? I've never seen this either and had not idea it was in the game.

You know the numbering of the positions? 123456789 are P,C,1B,2B,3B,SS,LF,CF,RF

So a 2F means the ball went in the direction of the catcher (2) but went foul. A pretty common "fouled back" so you will see it all of the time, if it goes into play it will get another number.

89XD means the ball went between the CF (8) and the RF(9) and it went extra deep. This often is a dinger or an extra base hit.

Those number don't mean the player made or had a play at this ball - even though often they do. So 89XD could mean home run to right-center, or fly ball caught by the RF or CF, or fly ball dropping in or off the wall, or liner - in any case, the ball went extra deep to right center, anything else is up to luck and wind and the outfielders.

I don't know, but I'd guess it's the location of the batted ball

2F is a foul around the catcher
13 between pitcher and first
89 between CF and RF
XD, I have no idea

Again, just a guess

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that XD means extremely deep. So 89XD would mean that the ball was hit deep into the right-centerfield power alley. I assume this because some balls are also s or m, which I assume must mean short or medium.

That's all very logical

This is scoresheet method of determining where the ball is hit.

The game went straight from the runner being on third to going to the box score before I could press the button for the next batter. I didn't notice it on the PBP box before it happened. I was confused as to what happened, and I had to dig into the game log to find out.

I REALLLLLLY hate when the game or play just ends without showing the WHOLE play! Maybe they can fix that. And when you try to watch the replay, it STILL doesn't show it.

I've never had a game end that way

I've had an inning end that way, with a similar WTF moment

I've had the hidden ball trick in my game a couple of times, but you can't see it happening, even when you go to replay.

Thanks for explaining the batted ball zone locations guys... We actually used a similar type of chart, but not as many zones when I played in college. Well, our team scorekeeper, that is. That's going to make reading the Game Logs a lot better.

The hidden ball trick is funny...especially at higher levels of competition. I learned a long time ago, don't you dare take both feet off the bag unless YOU have personally asked the umpire for time or until you see the pitchers foot touch the dirt of the mound. Otherwise, it's a balk.

What do you know, it happened to me in a playoff game. It happened with less than 2 outs, so I got to see the play by play.
