MLB vs independent leagues
In fictional setup, what is the difference between a MLB league and an independent league, if they are both set to the same level?

They function as a a "level" outside of the major league structure (AAA, AA, A, S-A, Rookie). Traditionally they are US or US/Canadian leagues. Other leagues outside US/Canada are usually thought of as International Leagues.
Unless you really mess with the settings, they will serve as a place where fringe major league talent can play. The most important settings are going to be the League Reputation and everything in the financials. If you were to set the Reputation to 10, and alter the financials (and also turn off "Allow Players to be purchased by other Leagues), it might function as a rival to the MLB. I'm not sure how often people try that. It's happened in history before with the Player's League, the Federal League, the Pacific Coast League (prior to being affiliated), the Mexican League and almost with the Continental League.

It's these things I am particularly curious about. By "level" I meant Reputation. If I set an independent league to 10 would it behave the same as a MLB Reputation? If I set an independent league reputation to 10 and a MLB league reputation to 7 will the indy league outperform the MLB? The only difference in the settings is that independent leagues have the option of feeding into other leagues, whereas MLB leagues do not. |
