21 Teams in 3 Divisions
I'd love a schedule for a 21 team league, all one subleague, split into 3 divisions of 7. Teams play divisional opponents 12 times each, non-divisional opponents 4 times each, for a total of 128 games.
Obviously this requires any given day either having one team from each division having an off day, or 1 team with an off day and 2 teams playing inter-division games, which I think the excellent custom schedule generator can't handle. Is such a schedule possible? |

Yep, it won't be too crazy actually. Here's the breakdown:
12 games vs. 6 division opponents (4 series per opponent; 24 series total) 4-game series vs. 14 league opponents (1 series per opponent; 14 series total) So every team has 38 series to play. With all the byes needed to accomodate the odd number of teams, it can be done in as few as 40 "rounds" with each team having two byes. I guess I should ask some other questions at this point. Want an All-Star break? Preferred start date? Any other specifications? The byes will actually make things a bit easier overall, fewer puzzle pieces that have to fit precisely. |

So, I messed up slightly with this one. Usually if I'm not sure I'll include an All-Star Game by default, but of course this is a league that can't have an ASG (because only 1 subleague). I didn't realize my mistake until I was completely done and testing. So instead, there are 3 days in late June where every team has off. Will fix if you need but I thought I'd post this version because it is definitely functional. It's a bit more than sliding every game up 3 days, because then the days of the week don't quite match my intent.
---------- Schedule for 21 teams, 128 games (3 divisions of 7 teams each) ---------- - 12 games vs. 6 division opponents (6H/6A; 36H/36A total) - 4 games vs. 14 league opponents (4H or 4A; 28H/28A total) ---------- Because this schedule has an odd number of teams, there's no day in which all 21 teams are playing. Each team has 3 "byes" in the schedule, periods of 3+ days without a game, in addition to the accidental All-Star Break built into this schedule ---------- Season begins on the first Monday of April and ends on a Monday in late August (as late as Sept. 1) Weekday games begin at 7:10 local, weekend games at 1:10 ---------- The schedule has a handful of pre-scheduled doubleheaders (3, I believe) due to the high number of 4-game series ---------- |

Thanks for doing this, sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
Up to now in lieu of an all-star game I've scheduled a tournament about two thirds of the way through the season, with a full 14 days off for every team. Ideally the season begins on a Sunday in early April, the first day of the break is a Friday in late June, then games return on a Friday two weeks later. In addition there would be about 13 more days off, so the season ends on a Sunday. But that's all flexible if it's too much effort. Having it be 4 home or 4 away rather than 2 of each isn't ideal but it's fine if need be, same with having doubleheaders. The start times are nice but can take a backseat to other aspects if that makes it any easier. |
