Perfect Team Question for Newbie

Hello All,
I just recently bought OOTP 21 and have never played any prior versions of the game. I was just wondering if anyone had advice on team building, specifically whether to buy packs or individual card at auctions. To my untrained eye, it would seem like buy card auctions could improve you faster but unless you want to spend a lot of money you wont get great cards, whereas if you go with the packs you will get a lot of bad cards but improve your odds somehwhat (even if relatively small) to get higher end cards 90+ without breaking the bank? But, of course, I am just guessing and have not seen it yet enough to make a judgment either way. Any advice would be appreciated.

Generally it's wiser to build through auctions rather than packs IMO. Packs are basically gambling...you might get a nice card once in a while, but the house generally wins in the end. You can buy a diamond for ~5,000 PP in the auction house, but if you bought 5 packs instead, most likely will have zero diamonds inside (on average it takes 30 packs to pull a diamond).

I got 2 diamonds from standard packs early on but, lately I have been filling holes with auctions. Auctions provide the best value, lower risk choice. Enter tournaments to win points and free packs. You can participate in 3 tournaments at one time.
