The LSHR Write-Up
I have finally started something I've been wanting to do for a long time!
The Learn Some History League is my way of throwing a mid 20's baseball fan into learning about the past of our great sport. I could never get myself to dive into the old days like I've wanted, so I finally created this league to press myself into it. Setup: Current MLB teams and structure, set in 2019. A historical league with an inaugural draft, with new players from history being added via amateur draft every year. 25 man rosters with no minor leagues (I know I know..), instead players not on the 25 man are just there.. There are no financials, I want players to play for the same team or few teams over their whole careers, creating rivalries between similar teams year after year, and between players for awards. I also don't want any reason to get rid of my new favorite players. Seasons are 50 games, with 1 game series and no interleague play until the World Series. I will be playing the Brewers, but the point of this league is to learn more than win. Special Rules: - AI trading is enabled, but the only trading I am allowed to do is accept trades offered to me, with no manipulation via trading block/team needs. - Roster moves can only be made due to injury, during the offseason, and at the All-Star break (21 games into the year). No shuttle guys since there are no minor leagues. - If a player has 3 halfs of a season on the 25 man roster (because roster moves are only once during the season), I cannot remove them from my 25 man without releasing them. - All-Star selections based completely off of play instead of popularity, I want those to mean something, although I realize them being based on 21 games will result in unrealistic results at times. - I will take the first pick in every inaugural draft - the point isn't to win (even though I likely will...), and this way I can find the player I am most interested in each year and take them. I'll be updating this thread occasionally (probably between years, I am managing every game to become "closer to the team") with players I find interesting and things I learn. Wish me luck! Side note: I have already done the Inaugural draft, and my favorite player initially is Merritt "Sugar" Cane, a pitcher in the 30s for a few teams. It's hard to find information on him since he wasn't great and only played for 7 years way back when, but this is the kind of player I want to know about! I have a good range of players, with a few current players, some from the 1800s, and everything inbetween. The only player universally known is Mickey Mantle. Lou Gehrig also made it into the inaugural draft (drafted by STL), I have a feeling those two will be duking it out for MVPs and titles for a long time Last edited by backupbatboy; 04-08-2020 at 10:11 AM. |
