Tournaments/winter leagues

Can anyone give further detail on the difference between setting your tournament to be a tournament or winter league. The manual says winter leagues are for development and tournament players dont really develop.

Are the players selected differently in one or the other mode?

Essentially I would like to have a league where all the teams consistent of players only of where they are from which I can easily setup by creating a super short league season to get the players in and then have the real season via tournament mode and making it annual.

But I am concerned about that it says tournament mode players wont develop. Or if the winter league setting would only pull young players for it instead of the best available from the league.

Thanks

Winter/summer leagues are for your minor league guys. You can set which minors levels are to appear. Then the manager of the teams pick players. Like it might be 4 minor league systems per fall team

Tournaments are typically for you pro guys. Olympics or works baseball tourney etc

Winter league = players will develop and therefore the AI will prioritize selecting young players who have room for development . A developed young prospect would typically not get selected. Despite setting the levels in other words it’s not best available.

Tournament = there is no development outside of gaining fielding experience. Best available players will be selected with your max/min levels in mine.

In both cases some pitchers may not be selected if they pitched too many innings for the year. Injured players will also not be selected.

I am wanting to have like a U18 tournament season, where the players are on their respective regional teams.

I'd want the best of the players available to represent their regions, but it would be unfortunate if they didnt develop.

Any recommendations on which setup would be better to use?

You can try to force some of the best players by setting the rejection rate to never when using a winter league. You shouldn’t have a problem since 18 year olds are usually not fully developed. Around the age of 22 is where you would began to have top prospect not get picked for a winter league consistently.
