As for deGrom, great as he is, he had seven starts last year where he went 5 innings or less.

Even great players have poor games. That's baseball.

So far, so good. It feels real.

I'm very impressed. In fifteen years of buying OOTP, this maybe my first completely glitchless preorder yet! At least it stands out in my mind as being rare. Seems like there's always at least a minor Mac FaceGen issue, if nothing else.

Set up a custom fictional league, simmed a season week by week, all with out the slightest issue. Everything looks terrific. Great job, folks!

Good news. Encouraging. And I’m missing your old avatar. Wasn’t it a mountain or the like?

Thanks! I am very proud of the team. So far this has been our best beta release yet, which will most likely make Friday our most flawless release ever.

I just played one game as GM of the Dodgers 2020 to get a feel for game play. My first impression of the ball follow under default settings was it was hard to track and gave me motion sickness (I have a 27 inch monitor and was playing with a full screen). I turned it off after 4 innings. I also changed the camera views. The default setting was initial view wide, pitch camera view I believe CF close view (or whatever is behind the pitcher), Action camera view wide. Those view settings made it hard to track the ball. When I changed the pitch view to HP (home plate) it seemed to flow better when changing to wide view action.

As for audio, there were some things that bothered me in previous versions that haven't changed, mostly when the crowd cheers and boos. Crowd never cheers for strikeouts, crowd cheers when visiting team scores on a sacrifice fly. Crowd doesn't cheer when scoring runs sometimes. Crowd boos when home team has a successful sac bunt. There are more but probably best to address this on a different thread.

Anyway, great game, looking forward to delving in more into the new version over the next few days

The news of this release and what I have seen so far makes me very sad.

Sad that I stopped beta testing a couple of years ago!

Can't wait to dive in on Friday (Steam user).

I have to agree I got a little sick as well. I turned off the follow the ball motion but the camera changes work great.

The game looks beautiful. If I had two criticisms from the handful of games I've played:

1. The pitcher's placement on the mound is poor from the center field view.
2. The initial jerkiness of the camera when it switches back to the wide view to follow the ball makes it difficult to follow the ball.

I'm still figuring out some of the other new features, since I only have about an hour in the game at this point but I have to talk about the trade AI. I started my game as the Boston Red Sox. I did so in Challenge Mode because reasons, so the Trade Difficulty is set to Hard.
Here is the first trade that I was offered by the AI:

"The Kansas City Royals would send 35 year old RHP Ian Kennedy (retaining 60%) and 21 year old minor league RHP Noah Bryant to the Boston Red Sox, getting 25 year old LF Andrew Benintendi in return."

What? I mean, granted, my assistant GM agreed that it was a terrible trade, but yikes.

But here is my real rub. I simmed a few weeks into the season when Giancarlo Stanton came off the Injured List for the Yankees. I set up a trade between the Red Sox and the Yankees for just Stanton and clicked "Make This Work Now" and you can see the response that I got.

Come on, guys. I mean, I understand Stanton is coming off of an injury but in what alternate universe would the Yankees EVER negotiate an offer like this with any team, let alone the Red Sox?

I believe in policing myself in regards to the trade market in the single player game, but this is a bit over the top.

Keep in mind, if you don't like the "behind the pitcher" view for the pitch, you can change that. I do find it a little distracting at times too. We'll keep updating things over the coming days and weeks and months.

They think his contract is underwater for value, and thus they're willing to trade him for anything to get rid of the contract.

Not really that unrealistic (other than the Red Sox part, which since we don't have rivalries yet, we can't control). Teams do this all the time, if they can.

The real life Padres would happily trade Wil Myers for a bucket of balls right now and throw 30-40 mil into the deal too if you asked nicely.

Anybody know what "show starting pan" is in the options window of game play? I didn't see anything about it in the ootp 21 manual

And I'm thinking I unfortunately won't be a follower of following the ball As of know my old man eyes can't adjust to the jerky feel

The odd thing is when I saw the demonstration of ball follow on the ootp21 new features video on youtube a couple of weeks ago it didn't seem to bother me. Maybe this is one time having a big monitor doesn't help

The starting pan is on the first pitch of the game, we pan around the stadium.

FYI we are still playing around with the ball follow. There's a couple settings you can adjust, the big one being camera speed, where if you set that lower, the camera should move much slower.

We also battled a few bugs with it in the last couple weeks, and that resulted in the camera being a little more jerky than we potentially had it before. I think we've found the issues, so hopefully you'll be noticing some improvements on it for the full release and shortly thereafter.

I understand WHY they MIGHT make the trade, but this is the same issue that existed last year: the AI over values contracts waayyy too much. And honestly, its not really even about rivalries. I wouldnt even see the Yankees trade a guy of the caliber of Stanton in division at all.

Another example: I just did the same thing for Bryce Harper. The Phillies would give him to me for Rafael Devers. Straight up. Now, Devers is a great player, but its been made clear that Harper is the cornerstone of the Phillies franchise.

what does "underwater" mean? just because he's not a "good value" doesn't mean they will trade him for anything. Stanton is still probably a 140 OPS+ player, they don't just give those guys away even if they are overpaid. they want to win games, he will help them do so, you can't just replace that bat mid-season

Ok, update on follow ball game play. I might be a follower after all. It seems to work very well (a lot less jerky) with the following settings: Camera movement delay 0.00, camera transition time 0.00s, camera movement speed 2, initial view wide, pitch camera view hp, action view wide. In other words I set all the camera movements to it's fastest. I'm thinking this work best for me cause I'm on a 27 inch monitor in full screen mode. Maybe for smaller screens or smaller window sizes a slower camera is better
