For, I have experimented and failed: While playing OOTPB with one hand, mouse or keyboard, I have in fact, many times, tried to pick up chips and beer (or soda, tea, what have you) with the other, in ONE HAND, and have failed miserably.

Chips and liquid on keyboard will most definitely interfere with keyboard commands!

+1, making the game more friendly with keyboard commands will make the game significantly better IMO. I've been thinking about this for years.
