Linux

I have migrated over to Linux this winter - will the game play in Linux - either Wine or through Steam?

OOTP 18 - 20 all worked great via Steam. I don't know if any OOTP has native Linux support, but I know it will work flawless through Steam Proton.

BTW, welcome to the Linux master race! We're growing...

OOTP20 works great in Arch Linux through Steam. Hope it still does in 21!

Yes, I've been ordering over Steam ever since OOTP 15. And it has always been a native Linux program.

And I'm 100% a Linux user.

P.I.S.D. has been selling a non-steam Linux version since OOTP 9, hopefully that will be the case with OOTP 21 as well (since I have issues running steam).

Is OOTP21 going to have the same PISD Linux version as prior releases?

Linux- Challenge Mode and Perfect Team

I will be diving into OOTP for the very first time when 21 releases on 3/20. I noticed in the system requirements for OOTP20 that Challenge Mode and Perfect Team are not available in the Linux client. Is that the case for 21 as well?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% but I believe as long as it's the steam version then you are good to for perfect team.

PT is honestly a great feature. I'm addicted. I don't spend any real money but I had tons of fun playing it in XX. It doesn't take nearly as much time as normal ootp like 100x less time. But I couldn't imagine playing ootp without pt anymore.

Challenge mode however I have mixed feelings on it still. I think it is great and often okay Ironman on other games. But it isn't real Ironman mode and you basically get less game features in challenge mode. As you can't modify anything about the league or universe or use templates etc. No live updates either. So you can't say do a challenge mode playoff run or challenge mode post all Star run.

I think challenge mode should be true Ironman without save scumming but it needs the ability to have all OOTP features built into the game mechanics. Like changing rules or universe expanding. Needs done kind of owner/gm interaction with the universe. And it needs live start ability. At least for post all Star and playoff starts.

Or if a bad update bug happens you are kind of stuck with it in challenge mode because you can't fix anything universe wise.

Like it should have 3 live start challenge mode options. Season opening. Day after all Star. Day before playoffs.

Loved challenge mode in 19 but ended up disliking in XX. Think for 21 I'll just use all the settings of challenge mode to standardize my games by leave it off.

That's good news, I will be purchasing through Steam.

Thanks!

UPDATE:
Per Kris - Community & Content Dev on Discord, Perfect Team for Linux in OOTP 21 is a no-go

Maybe there is a way to force Steam to install the Windows version and use Proton instead?

UPDATE #2
I purchased OOTP 20 through Steam and installed using proton 4.11-13. Perfect Team seems to work fine. I hate that I had to drop twenty bucks to get a simple answer to my question, but maybe it will help someone else. No guarantees it will work for other folks and will probably not be supported by OOTP Developments, but it seems to work well for me (Linux Mint 18). That is to say, OOTP 20 works....hopefully 21 will as well. Guess I will find out in a couple of weeks.
