Additionally, there is value in knowing which live cards exist currently in game, and there is value in having this information presented in locations and formats more suitable to this purpose than the collection mission pages.

No, it is accurate when presented conditionally. If you want any additional information on a card's publicly facing information, then you are forced to search for and find the card. I am still looking for something as simple as the Overall values of 1978 Fergie Jenkins, 1968 Dave Giusti, and 2005 Brad Lidge in PT20. I will not know their OVR's unless and until I find them or someone who has also found them.

Want is they key word. I'm not forced to do anything.

Of course nobody is forced to do anything. This is a game. Nothing about a game is a basic necessity of life. Its whole and entire purpose is to fill wants.

And if I want to collect Astros and Rangers, I am made to search for the cards.

They are in the list as Markus said, right?

"Here's an example:
13780;"One Hit Wonder, RF George Altman, CHC, 1962";GOLD;81"

Chicago Cubs.

As to it's a game, yes to play the game you are forced to do certain things. Log in, submit a lineup etc etc....what you are not forced to do is compile a complete list of every attribute for every card in the game. That is completely optional and on you if you want to do it. That's all I'm saying. The poster said "I'm forced to".

Are you really nitpicking over the word "make"? Yes I am aware we aren't being held at gunpoint.

There is no gameplay value in gate-keeping PUBLIC game information behind hours of tedious searching and data recording.

Actually, no. The Lidge, Jenkins, and Giusti cards I am looking for Overall values for were released after the card lists for 20 were made available, nor are they associated with any Astros and Rangers historical collection missions (or any collection missions at all, as best as I can ascertain). Following a similar card release structure, these cards and any others like them would also not be listed in 21.

Is card discovery actually fun? Trying to discover these 3 cards that I know exist has been an unrewarding and unfulfilling grind.

I know you are going to think I'm nitpicking everything you say but are cards that have never been pulled public information?

I get that you are a very high level player, I've played against you. I just don't see this a big issue, I totally get that some people might care.

Fair point on cards that have never been pulled, although I doubt there are that many of them after a couple days of play.

I'm not sure about you but I like to know what's out there so I can target certain players. I'm not using the database to come up with a formulaic way to rank players, I just want to know who might show up on the AH. There are so few copies of high level guys around that unless you check the AH very frequently or go around looking at other teams rosters you wouldn't know they exist. To me that isn't a very fun use of time and is closer to work than playing a game.

A disappointing compromise, to say the least. No ratings, if I want George I'll have to hope someone has him in my league so I can see. But worse than that-- there is so much info in a single field "card title" that you can't even sort on last name. Last year, someone with advanced excel skills was able to tease this information into more sortable fields, but there is no guarantee that person will be back.

I could probably write a perl scipt to split it up using regex.

That would be nice. Are there also ways of downloading player rating info from your league directly into an SS without having to input this manually player by player?

I'd have to look at an export.

Player search is an extraordinarily powerful tool, once you teach yourself to to parse out the data you need.

I'd like to thank the developers for its rather extensive utility.

I use player search, but how to export into an SS is beyond my limited SS skills. Making game data hard to access for the less computer savvy is just another way to gain an edge, if you are computer savvy.

Well, yeah, not everyone needs or wants DB and mad Excel skillz. It's hardly an ideal situation.

But I think this will help those concerned with typing in data by hand? Hope so, anyway.

Player Search parsing for spreadsheets

Database Update Queries are an entirely out of the scope of OOTP, and no one wants to take an Excel class, right?

But if you can get your data into your spreadsheet, you're more than halfway home.

Can just use delimited splitting in Excel, it's fairly straightforward.

EDIT: Just set up a sheet that will let me split it up in about 30 seconds, assuming they don't change the list formatting. Just need to use find & replace to change the quotation marks to colons since quotation marks don't work in the formula, then use fill down on the rest of the columns.

Assuming I don't run into any unforeseen issues I'll post that list after the list from the devs comes out. And assuming they don't make a bunch of UI changes that makes it redundant, I'll plug it into my more detailed and user friendly one I'm working on and get started filling that out.
