Help Spread OOTP Greatness
Just posted about OOTP 21 on a steam group I belong to. Turn based tactics group. As there is crossover appeal since when you play out the baseball games in 3d it's basically turn based sports "combat".
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/tb...4605014724104/ So if there are any steam users out there. Come by the group and share your OOTP insight. I know lot of the members enjoy socceer management games so there should be some interest in ootp. Let's spread the word!!! |

I prefer to buy the game direct from OOTP, but I'm all for spreading the word any way I can!

Its a really good group of people. Always excellent information, news, updates and recommendations. There is even a handful of some nice streamers as members. OOTP could always use some more streamers as they move product! Oh and I forgot even Indy Game Devs stop by the group for chatting and updates. And being a big turn based tactical fan OOTP isn't really that different its just sports instead of battle but still turn based competition. Yes it is always good to spread the word. |

There is a good amount of overlap between us and some other turn-based games. I know personally, one of the few games I play outside of OOTP is the Civilization franchise, and I'm not the only staff member here who enjoys it.
Thanks for spreading the word

This has always been my impression. My two favorite games are this one and Order of Battle, which is also a turn-based game. People who play these games want to, and need to, think and plan between turns. I don't like continuous action in which I have to think on my feet. (Well, on my you-know-what.) I guess I'm just built that way.

I've also heard great things about Unity of Command II but I have yet to personally play it only watched let's play videos. Hmmm maybe OOTP is the Civilization of Sports! Each organization is like its own country. |

EDIT: I should add, by the way, that Civilization is what got me started with video games. That and High Heat or Hardball, whatever it was called. OOB and OOTPB (which acronyms I mix up constantly) are my two current favorites although I will return to Civ one day. EDIT 2: I was thinking "either/or" but actually it was probably both because a quick look in Wikipedia reveals that they both were former baseball video games: Hardball and High Heat. I probably owned them each of them. Little did I know then what was in store for the future.

I play Civilization periodically too, but have not played anything in the series past Civilization IV or its expansions. Have played from the original game which had AI that often seemed to cheat in certain ways, including with combat odds, for example. I've played a lot of Civilization II and a lot of Vanilla Civilization IV, but not a lot of Civilization IV's expansions, as well.
Would not mind seeing someone do quickstarts inspired by each version of Civilization and/or its expansions. Or Colonization, or Alpha Centauri and its sequel Alien Crossfire, either, come to think of it. Just some thoughts from a long-time Civilization player and one who still isn't too experienced with OOTP compared to various others here, folks. Take them as you will or not, of course, and all. CD out.

When I've played Alpha Centauri, or at least when I used to, the Gaians don't always win, or didn't, I believe. Though Skye's fighters can be dangerous at times, to a degree, of course, in certain ways. I often played or play as the Lord's Believers, if memory serves. The University under Zakharov can be tough to deal with, as can Yang's Hive, among others.
Just some thoughts about a couple of the factions in that game. Haven't been able to get or play Alien Crossfire, though. CD out.

I will interrupt you guys just a minute by sharing this quote from the Wikipedia article on Hardball:
"Entertainment Weekly picked the game as the #11 greatest game available in 1991, saying: "With its oversaturated colors, ultrarealistic sound effects (when the umpire shouts 'Play ball!' it sounds as if he’s in the room), and detailed managerial options, HardBall! is the closest you may ever get to playing in a real major-league ballpark." That last sentence made me chuckle, seeing what we have now.

Been quite a while since I've played Alpha Centauri, in truth, so my memories of certain games may be a bit unreliable at the current time. Still was a challenging game to play, especially when mind worms and other things popped up from time to time. Still wouldn't mind seeing a quick start or two that is undeniably influenced at least in part by that game and/or its sequel, or at least team and/or league-related graphic sets, if possible. And even by the various editions of Civilization and/or its expansions, for that matter.
I'd love to have at least one Civilization-inspired/influenced league in various dynasties of mine, and associated teams, if possible, later, for sure. But realistically, that may not be possible for a while, at least, of course. Will probably write more here at some point, I think. But I'll need to do some other things first, I think. CD out.

Civilization is great! But I feel like I'm the outlier. I loved the action console games like Metal Gear Solid and Madden Football, etc. But now that I have three kids, my old console is only ever a DVD player for Disney movies... The only time I can play games is when I can steal away a few minutes for a game in OOTP or a few turns in Civilization.

Civ is awesome. It is one of my favs.
While not turned based I do play a sandbox called Elite Dangerous and I do consider OOTP a sandbox as you can set your own goals and play the game almost anyway you dang well want to. One of the things that makes OOTP so awesome. Pine Tar

I know I play this game wrong, but I find OOTP to be one of the best trading games out there.
Wheeling and dealing to get the best players and more money. Trading around for salary relief. Trading for a SS so that I can package him later for an SP. Moving a guy I need for a prospect, only to trade back for him three weeks later. Seeing how far I can push the AI for a slick deal. It's probably unfair and definitely unrealistic, but I find it to be a ton of fun. With a lot of trading games, you're conveying goods that don't really have any meaning in the game other than value (and roleplay text). Here, the "goods" are the players and their value is listed both in money (salary) and how well they play. The ultimate goal of winning the World Series means trading like a mad man for the best value in all senses of the word. This does have the tendency of shifting around a ton of players on every team, but I could spend hours upon hours analyzing potential trades. With so many players, so many contracts, and so many metrics; what is a good trade can be really hard to determine! |

Any suggestions any of you might be able to offer that might help me do better on Noble-level games for games of Civilization IV or either of its expansions? I find it often hard to stay caught up with the AI civilizations after about the time of the BC-AD changeover, more or less, if not sooner. I can periodically win on Warlord, but eventually the money starts becoming a problem, and/or the other civilizations are hard to keep up with technology or military-wise, of course.
I'd like to be able to win more on Noble, if I've won before on it, but as you may know very well, every game of Civilization is different, of course. I'm sure many of you may play higher levels of difficulty at times, but I can't seem to do very well, often, if not always, on Noble, unless there aren't many other AI civilizations present in a particular game. I'd love to win more games just like I would often like to win more here in my various OOTP games, of course, but I often find it very hard to win such games of Civilization. So any suggestions any of you might have that might help me win more such games, I'd greatly appreciate here, for sure. Just a few thoughts and/or questions here, that's all. Feel free to take them as you will or not, of course, folks. And answer them or not, as you like, as well, for that matter, obviously. CD out.

Aw, I love Civ. Played a round earlier today, made nothing but mortal enemies, had my proud capital Aachen burned to rubble by the ghastly Australians, and then came with the newest tech available on the market - pikes! - and stabbed them all to hell and back!!
![]() ![]() Can we get pikes in OOTP? Can we? Please?
