Project Out of the Box.
Sitting here at work thinking about OOTP and I've decided to finally take a crack at something I've always wanted to do, but never got around to doing.
When I get home from work tonight, I am going to create a historical league starting in 1947. I am going to use historical transactions(no real lineups) Once the league begins, I will not be allowed to edit anything in regards to league settings. Whatever the OOTP default setting is, that's what I will be using. Period. Oh gosh this means I will be using expanded roster in Sept. I won't be managing or running a team. Will simply be watching. I'm interested to see how different each years end of the year standings turn out compared to real life. How many times will OOTP produce the same real life World Series pairings. Recalc will be on, but the development engine will be off, since players will miss seasons and retire according to history. 1 year recalc will be used. Figure this is the time to finally do this, since injuries were finally added to real transactions. Back in my school boy days, I played a lot of Strat and APBA using cards and dice. I have a feeling this project is going to bring back a ton of memories of those years. Well, except for making my dad risk his employment by running off scoresheets on the company copier that is. |

Ahh. Those old scoresheets. Had to have them for both of those games! Remember ordering teams and waiting for the ups guy??

Giving this another shot, but I'm starting in 1954 this time. I'm using 5 year recalc instead of 1. This should create havoc in terms of season outcomes and history should change quite a bit. The development engine is off. Figure 54 is a great jumping off point. Aaron is just starting his career. Clemente is only a year away. Mays and Mantle are hitting their groove. Bob Buhl is pitching for the Braves(my dad went to high school with him). Ernie Banks, Eddie Mathews and Duke Snider. And then there's that cat named Al Kaline in Detroit. Can't forget him.

One thing that I wish OOTP would do, is give us the option when playing historical to eliminate the real stats line on a players info box. I tend to get sidetracked into wondering why OOTP is starting this guy when that guy started more games. That's one of the reasons I'm using 5 year recalc this time around. It will toss out real life usage to a certain extent. An option box to eliminate the real stats from the info box would a great addition.

Enjoy David. I did run a replay league with historic transactions and with injuries off I think. Got from 1901 to somewhere in the 1940s maybe and then the game crashed for some reason. But I loved reproducing the statistics.
