This trade doesn't make sense
I play stats only.
I have trades on hard, with neutral focus. AI looks at 15/25/50/10 for ratings, current year stats, last year stats, two years ago stats. I am Mont Kiara. AI is Singapore. I shopped Roberts and SIngapore offered up Sandifer. I am 20-19. Singapore is 18-21. We are in the same division. I am in first. So they are only a couple of games out. Based on my settings and their gm settings of valuing batting average and current year stats, i dont understand why the AI would make this trade. |

Maybe it is just a money issue. Still frustrating though.

You are 30-something games into a 140 game season. The AI is set to slowly ramp up their consideration of the current year's stats to prevent them from making a decision based on small sample sizes. So, they are still going to be considering last year's stats quite a bit. Considering the salary difference, age difference and the WAR differences in 2019 and 2020, I don't see a problem with this trade at all.

That's fair analysis. I appreciate it. I just zipped through the season. Roberts ended up with a higher WAR than my guy . Although my team ended up with the better record.

This trade makes the most sense financially. For Singapore, they would free up a lot of money and have a younger replacement with 5 more years of roster control.

When I was GM of the 1908 NY Giants I once traded a player who only played 2 games total in the majors to the Cubs for HOF SS Joe Tinker. It made no sense at all that it went through except for one thing--Tinker and double play mate Johnny Evers despised each other. Maybe the Cubs GM just wanted some locker room harmony. Then later in the season the Cubs, having a fire sale, offered me HOF pitcher Three Fingered Brown for a journeyman pitcher. I didn't have the heart to make the trade. The point being that the AI can act weird at times when it comes to trades.

Younger, cheaper player in their prime versus 31 year old who is potentially past his best years? Also, don't forget fielding which the AI tends to value more than human players.
How many years left on Sandifer's contract versus Roberts? |

My question is about your settings. You have a setting weight of 15 for ratings. As a stats only player myself I have that set to 0 since I have no ratings present in my game. Do you have that set where you do because you are still using stars? What I’m getting at here is that if you have a ratings set at 15 like you do, does the AI get a look at some internal ratings that you as a human player do not? Do those pot and overall stars count as ratings? I think they might because there is an option to turn those stars into a numeric value. I don’t know the answer myself. I’m just trying to look at it from a different angle. What everyone else has posted about why the trade went through in terms of age and years and the rest makes sense to me as well. That could be the reason. However, when I initially read your post that immediately jumped out to me even before I looked at the player profiles in the rest of your post.
