Scoring Question
Runner on first. Next batter gets a hit runner scores, throw goes to third batter safe. (had option to send runner home) Double or Triple?
I think triple OOTP says double. I am seeing this a lot. |

With the information you provided I think a Triple. Had they attempted to throw to the plate it would be a Double.

Two things here. One is the fact that you had the option to send the runner home, he wasn't forced. As for the throw going to third, without the PbP I don't know if it went directly to third or was cutoff by the infielder because the batter was trying to take second on the throw to the plate. Based on the first bit of evidence, I would lean double, batter advanced on the throw. If the batter was going for a triple all the way, I don't think OOTP would make it so you could turn a triple into a double by holding the runner at third. I could be wrong but my educated guess says that the OOTP engine doesn't work like that.

If you have the option to send the runner home, then that's implying that the runner has MADE 3rd base. And this is from the pbp, right? Should be a triple.

It's a double if the batter advanced to third as a result of the defense making a play on the runner trying to score. It's a triple if the play was only on the batter. Sounds like a triple the way you described it.
