Best historical start

Looking to start and re-write history starting in 82-83 adjusting the league, keeping and moving teams differently etc. Just figured I'd see what everyone thought would be the best settings to use for the league.

Also wondering if there was something I was doing wrong. I've noticed in the test runs that the AHL teams are empty, but players drafted in the 1982 entry draft are available to sign by each team, but under the edit tab do have the proper teams rights listed. Will they fill a roster spot, or is there something I'm doing wrong?

They only fill a roster spot if you sign them. The just-drafted players who actually played in the NHL in your starting season will start with a contract and on your roster, the ones who didn't play will start as free agents with their rights belonging to you. If they're not signed, they're assumed to be playing in junior/college/Europe etc.
