It may be double reverse psychology. I'd watch out.

After digging up a few stats, I thought I'd share them with my fellow Cub fans here.

As far as my research has found, the Braves never tried using
Hampton on three days rest this season. Not sure if that is good or bad, seeing as how Ortiz pitched so well today, on three days rest.

Against Hampton, the Cubs, as a team, lifetime have hit .264 with 67 hits in 254 AB, and 9 HRs (With their starting lineup hitting .291 lifetime vs. Hampton )

Highlights
Mark Grudzielanek has hit .405 ---- 15 for 37 ---- 1 HR
Moises Alou .381 ------ 8 for 21 ----- 1 HR
Sosa 6 HRs -----13 for 52 ------ .250

Against Wood, the Braves, as a team, lifetime have hit .178
with 13 hits in 73 AB, and 1 HR

Highlights
Andruw Jones has hit .267 in 15 AB
Mike Hampton 1-3
Giles 1-3
Chipper Jones one HR in 14 AB

It looks to be a great game. I still like our chances, especially with the question mark about Hampton pitching on only three days rest. If we don't let him off the hook early like in the last game, we might be dancing in the streets.

Kerry Wood seemed unflappable, let's hope he has the same composure that saw him allow the Braves only 2 hits on their home field in Game 1 of this NLDS. He'll be pitching on four full days of rest. Hopefully, there will be enought Cub fans there in Atlanta to cheer them on to a win.

Let's Go Cubs!

I know. I know. Talk, talk, talk. That's all I ever do. And can't I just shut up already?

No, I want to mention anotherinteresting stat that I came across in the Trib this morning.

Yes, Russ Ortiz pitched commendably, and yes, his start would be considered a quality start by statisticians (i think). But they would also call it a fluke.

Pitching on three days rest, starters in the postseason, over the last five years have a 4-13 record and a 6.77 ERA. Teams that start a pitcher on three days rest during that stretch have gone 4-19.

So, statisticians would call it an anomaly, a freak, an aberration, at least, over the last five years. I'm hoping history, will be hard pressed to repeat itself, two days in a row.

The Question :
Can Mike Hampton suck it in enough, and not only pitch on three days rest, something he hasn't been asked to do all season, but also pitch well enough against a fully rested Kerry Wood, and keep Cubs' hitters down to actually defy all odds?

If he does, his intestinal fortitude and tremendous talent should be considered a benchmark for future situations with similar circumstances.

Jumping on the Bandwagon like this, is one thing. To create an alias today for the express purpose of tonight's game is incredible.

You would have had my respect if you would be on the bandwagon under your own alias. Come on.

Welcome aboard, anyway.

I did create this name mostly for this game. But, I've been browsing these boards on and off for a while now, and have been playing OOTP for about a year now.
