Does it matter if everyone in your bullpen is a Power Pitcher?

I asked this in the Discord channel but did not get much action on it.

How much, if any, does it matter in Perfect Team that your bullpen is varied? Does it matter if I go from power pitcher to power pitcher as my bullpen progresses through the setup guys to the closer? Is it important that the arm slots are varied? Do I benefit at all by giving the hitters different looks?

Thanks for any feedback!

Just get the best relievers you can... obviously if you get all power pitchers chances are that their control or movement won’t be the highest ... so tinker with what you have, there’s no requirement as far as your pen composition .

I have failed to see how arm slots and "style" affecting the sim so far. Until someone is dedicated enough to do the boatload of sims to prove that it does have an impact, I'd suggest you treat those things as "fluff" details with no effect on the sim.

Yeah, I agree, I would be really surprised if it had any effect. In the main game, those are used for player development purposes - the pitching coaches specialize in each different type, and will help them develop better than other types. But player development is disabled in PT.

As a related question - do the individual pitch ratings have any effect or is that simply data that's used to determine the "important" ratings on the card (Stuff, Mov, Con)?

Like, should I care if a guy has a 95 rated Fastball as opposed to a 78 rated Curve?

I think they are just data to determine the big 3, mainly stuffs. I guess you should care about your dude having a 95 fastball than a 78 curve because it increases his stuff. Otherwise, no.

As I have said before, I really wished pitchers stats are more detailed and have more niches in future versions. For now, they are boring and straightforward.

For what it's worth, the PT game logs DO include EV (exit velocities) on pretty much every ball in play. That leads me to suspect the game does use pitch velocity and pitch type in its simulation. Because how could you calculate the exit velocity if you don't know the location/speed of the pitch? That is just my opinion however not fact.

The arm slot's main function is to provide a rationale for why the pitcher has the particular splits they do. The individual pitches also factor into the splits because a FB/SL guy will be different than a FB/CB or a pitcher with a good CH or CUT. So, yes, these things are factors but are already accounted for in the "big 3" ratings themselves.

That's my understanding and I am open to being proven completely wrong.

But it might be one of those deals where the sim engine has already decided the outcome of the play and the EV is just window dressing. I doubt the EV is necessarily causative?

Arm slot was bugged in 19, as per the devs (see: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...10&postcount=3 ). While the affect of batting profiles was addressed, little attention was paid to what, if anything, changed with shifting arm slots.

The lack of information, either volunteered by the dev team or reported observations by the player base, lead me to assume that arm slot is little more than cosmetic in Perfect Team.

Not sure if it's the case for PT but I was of the opinion that arm slot affected L/R splits with the more side arm the slot the more extreme the splits
