Is it just me or is it almost impossible to trade for a top prospect now?

So I literally just now (okay, literally now about a minute and a half ago

) read this in an article on The Athletic: "For one thing, teams have become hyper-protective of their most hyped prospects."

It seems from other threads here that you are not alone in this perception of OOTP20 trading.
I can't say for sure that it is a universally correct perception, but if it is that might have something to do with the OOTP developers adjusting to the current realities of Major League Baseball.

Plus, for my money, anything that makes it harder to win consistently in OOTP (and therefore makes the game more realistic, IMO), is a good thing.

wonder if historical year matters? or, if just how entire app works now?

Well, presumably your high value specs are worth more if you are looking for help at the deadline.

Are you saying that in OOTP 20, prospects are more valuable (harder to trade for/will yield a better return if traded) near July 31st? Is this really true? I'm not sure I've ever heard of this being an element in OOTP previously.

No I'm just saying that if the teams value specs more, it may be that they will trade current players for high tier specs more easily.

But it may not be the case. If it's coded to value it's own specs more and not to generally value specs more. And that it's changed at all is anecdotal to begin with.

I don't necessarily think this is the case. At least not 100% of the time with 100% of the teams.

A lot depends on where you scout is rating their prospect compared to where the other team is rating their prospect. And if that position is a need for them or if its back logged.

When I use find player to find my style of players. On some teams they will basically be untouchable and others teams its totally possible.

Now I do think teams crank up their terms if its a ranked prospect. But your scout might think one of their prospects is really their top while their scouts don't think so. Those players can be gotten.

But I also think "top prospect" is a huge generalization. I know people traded for Vlad Jr in OOTP 19 even on extreme trading settings. I have no problem with a team not wanting to trade that type of prospect. OOTP 20 basically has him as Babe Ruth hitting. Unless the RNG Gods hit him.

I only play full current year real universe if that matters

Just a small sample size -- I am playing current year Major League baseball with game rosters --- and other than trades as commissioner from real life baseball that I processed, I haven't seen a single trade made in the first 2+ weeks of the season.

My settings are Hard/Neutral.
