Importing historical player ......not going into FA pool

I posted this in the General Discussions but didn't get a bite, so will try here instead.

BACKGROUND:
I'm trying my hand at an historical game that puts the best players on their logical MLB team. I wanted to use normalized career stats for all players but that looks like an impossibility. Instead, I will take the season that most resembles their MLB average and import that particular season for that player into the database.

PROBLEM:
I got the game shell created, deleted all players and am starting to populate the player database from scratch. As a test, I used the player import within the game and it seemed to work, but with one hitch. The Player can be seen on the PLAYER SEARCH & SHORT LIST > PLAYER SEARCH screen but NOT as an available free agent to be drafted.

In the SIGN FREE AGENTS area in the league settings is where the player import menus are in the upper right. It says IMPORT FREE AGENTS and takes you through the player ID entry and so on.

Am I missing something? How do I get the player that I imported onto the free agent list to be assigned to a team?

TIA for anyone that can lend their expertise into this.

Managed to get it working. I clicked off LOAD PLAYER INTO FREE AGENT POOL. then Imported again in the FA window from historical DB and it worked.

If I get this project finished I will make a quick start for it.
