Owner Goals
I only went back 3 pages, so I apologize if this has been addressed. One of my Owner Goals is to sign a HOMETOWN PLAYER... Can someone tell me what that is? I am playing as the Yankees and it isn't someone from NY. It isn't an Extremely Popular Local Player either. Thanks all!

I haven't experienced this in 20 yet but I did have it come up in 19 and I was able to promote a minor league reliever who was from Denver, Colorado, which is where my (fictional) team is based (and where I live.) He was a September call-up and not someone who really belonged on a big league squad yet, but it satisfied my owner and that was that. (The guy was back in the minors the next Spring but the owner goals had moved on to other issues.)
But I think it is a great question just how exact the game is in this area as I had a few other players I could have brought up who were from areas of Colorado that aren't terribly far from Denver. Would they have fit the bill for my owner? I may never know. I'd love to hear if anyone knows how precise the hometown player designation is, geographically speaking, that is. |

If my team is successful, I usually tell my owner to stick it when it comes to his demands.
My current team leads the league in runs scored, batting avg., etc., but he's bitching at me about not stealing enough bases. I'm winning, be happy. One time I did try to sign a "hometown player", I play as owner/manager/lead bottlewasher for the St. Louis Cardinals, I inked Jake Odorizzi to a free-agent deal. It didn't recognize him as a "hometown player" despite the fact he grew up in Highland, Ill., which is no more than 40 minutes from St. Louis. |

Use find a player and use the local player filter. That is the best way to meet this goal.

Try finding a hometown player when you are playing a fictional team in Winnipeg.

Starting as the Phillies in 2019, one of my owners goals was to sign Sean Rodriguez to an extension. There's really no room on the roster to carry him, but I dutifully gave him an extension and decided to go the first couple weeks of the season with an extra bench player and my owner was happy.
After getting through the April off days when I needed to add a pitcher, I traded him away to make room. The owner's goal changed to a red "Left Team". So I guess my owner was smart enough to see through my plot and I'll fail that goal. |

I guess it depends on the owner but my experience is winning trumps missing goals. Maybe I've always had owners that prioritize winning. Also I did reach all of the goals in one season on '19 challenge mode and received a perfect team player card pack so that was worth it there. I don't know if it was after a culmination of accomplishments in that league and it happened to be after the sweep of goals that season. |
