Collection Mission?

Would some one be so kind as to explain what these are?

Giving PT a try for the 1st time so feeling my way along here. I've seen these mentioned a few times in threads, but not sure what they are.

Thanks

They haven't started yet so all you're going to get is speculation.

My educated guess is that you'll have to collect all cards of a certain theme and when you do, you'll be awarded a free card (probably a pretty good one) that goes along with that theme.

To add to zrog2000's post

An example the mods have provided of a potential "theme" to collect would be the star studded 90's Atlanta Braves starting rotation. We could also see missions such as collecting all of the live series cards for a specific team (copying MLB TheShow) leading to a cool historical player card from that team. No idea what the specific missions will be yet, but they will just involve collecting certain cards to receive an award. It is only an example, but I already have a Steve Avery and Tom Glavine just in case the 90's Braves starter example actually ends up as a mission (doesn't hurt that I am a Braves fan). Some of us are avoiding selling ANYTHING until we get a look at the missions.

I posted yesterday asking when the missions will be revealed, to which Markus responded Late April. Just be patient and grow your card collection, hopefully the missions will line up well with what you already have!

Yup, taking a very different approach in 20. In 19, I sold everything unusable for points asap. This season, I'm going to be a hoarder. My initial thought is to only sell duplicates.

I wonder if you have actually "turn them in" or if they just check to see if you have them?

The cards are locked into your collection

It will be like MLB TheShow where you keep the cards but they will be locked, preventing you from selling them in the future. I.e. you get to keep them, but you can't buy cards for collection missions, redeem the reward, and then turn around and re-sell the cards you collected.

Is this speculation or has it been stated?

Also, assuming we can know such things at this point, will any sort of locking mechanism affect our ability to activate/deactivate cards?

According to one of Markhus's post, they become "locked" so you can't delete/sell them after getting the reward for them....

I wonder, then, if we have the option to refuse the collection achievement if we prefer the flexibility of being able to sell off cards in the future. Of course if the reward is good enough...

Flexibility to Claim Reward

I would assume that the collection redemption system will work separately from the usual achievement system. I.e. you must "opt-in" to the collection reward, and the cards are not locked unless you choose to do so. This is how things are done in TheShow, you can have all of the cards, but they are not locked, and you do not receive the reward, until you claim the prize.

The value of the reward should exceed the market value of the collected items, but if a gold live card is part of the collection and then that gold live card hits .350 with 30 HR in real life and becomes a perfect, you might not like being unable to sell... OTOH, it would be a very common perfect and worth not much more than auto-sell value.

You also might like starting him if that's the case!

What I'm interested in is if everyone will get the same collection missions, making certain cards skyrocket in price or if it'll be random.

I can't imagine they will be random, not sure how that would even work. Would the algorithm generate missions based on what cards you already have in your inventory?

There HAS to be a standardized set of collection missions for everyone, which means that certain cards of little-to-no on field value will suddenly become very, very valuable. It will be a whole different value dynamic. I am already preparing for this by buying up as diverse of a card base as I can, so I don't end up spending thousands of PP on crappy cards.
