Player IDs Question.
I am new to the game and started a league with 1732 players and used the fictional photos. I simmed two seasons and one of my players retired (his id was p3). During the next season I notice a p3.html and notice a new player was given this ID. Shouldnt the game start at 1733 for the second season amatuers and move ahead rather than re-use id numbers???
This cause me problems because I was using the almanac files to load into a database to keep a historical record of my players. Also by reusing the id won't this cause the new player to carry over stats from the previous player?? Also I look at the retired players list and the player does not show up in the current retired list and he does not show up in the players list and is not on the roster with a link from the last season. I released him after the season and before I proceeded to the next season so that may be the problem but the guy should either be in the player list or the retired players list......and his id number should not have been used so quickly. I hope someone out there has the answer to this one. |

No, when a player retires, his player id # is changed. It changes from pxxxx to ryyyy. The player can be viewed at ryyyy.html instead of pxxxx.html.

Strange....
I did not find a r3 file for this player and when I looked at the retired list I did not see the player and I did not see him on the players list in the almanac. I did a search on the players name and found only the p files for his 2 year career and the box scores that I saved. I was wondering if by releasing the player it somehow deleted him from the game. I thought that by dropping players they just go back into the fa list. The player did announce that this was his last year.

That's something else that I should have noted. Only players with a certain career length are going to have their stats saved. If the player only had a 2-year career, then the game deleted him when it proceeded to the next season.

DARN...
Is there something out there to export the stats each season to a database? I really wanted to keep historical stats for ALL players.....
The player that retired was jsut old when drafted in the original draft but playing in the Deadball ERA he had a .359 average the first year and finished the second year at .332 but was injured a few times (age 40). I was going to use the unretire utility I found on the web to unretire him and resign him..... |
