Johnny Rigney?
Blew my chance at greatness tonight on this guy who I have never seen before on any team I have played or on anyone's list of Starting Pitchers with FIP numbers.
I clicking on him to get his stat line which was: Johnny Rigney 95 95 74 69 3.3676 Thought hey that's pretty much top 30 in the game on my list and wanted 35K which seem reasonable. By the time I went back to buy him someone had used the buy now for 42K. Ghost pitcher or does anyone here own him? Any good? |

Haha, I bought him. I was bidding on him at below BIN, but I didn't want to risk it because he's somewhat rare. Had to quicksell a 1700 card to get him, so wasted a few hundred PP, but he rates really well.

Back at my computer. His splits are below. I've got him 32 overall, 21 vRHB. Should be an improvement over deGrom, my #5 last season.

I have seen him 7 times across my Perfect leagues...he is what you can
expect from him. This puts him into the middle of tier2 guys. Nice. Would have been my number 5 as well... Worth the price for sure. As someone who lurks the AH a lot lately it was like seeing a ghost. Grats on the pick up. Lol that's what I get for doing the math first.
And rather slowly I might add ![]() You saved me more explaining to the misses as the team I wanted him for I would have had to sell quite a few guys or fork over the $$$. I have my points tied up in my theme team right now so no dice. I didn't have the points or I would have done an instant BIN on the spot. Maybe next time. Hope he does well for you. Oh damn, check out the 2 Kevin Browns for not much more in the AH now. 45K BIN is awesome for him. He's even better than Rigney. EDIT: Top 10 overall, 10 for vR, and 14 vL on my rankings. Now I'm sad I can't just quickly swap Rigney for him. Last edited by DonkeyKongSr; 02-15-2019 at 11:22 PM. |

He's on my SP list at #10 though I haven't updated it in a few weeks with the new cards. Prices are dropping. I'm just waiting on a Dizzy Trout to fill my theme team and I'm good until the after the next big market adjustment where Pedros starting going for < 100K

Soooo, I didn't watch the first half of this season and Rigney was complete ass, going 2-10 with a 6.25 ERA. I dumped him in the AH and out of frustration I just spent his PP on packs. First pack I open...Kevin Brown. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.
Anyway, it's been such a nice upgrade, even though Brown got a bit unlucky on his win totals. He help me move from 4th to 1st in my division in the last half of the season. Oh yeah, I noticed Rigney on my list of season stats vs. my playoff opponent and it let me pull him up for this comparison. That was nice, because I figured I'd never be able to see his stats again. The first time I met him I think he spun a 3 hit shutout against me. Not a fan.

Sounds like it all worked out for you in the end. Comparatively, I'm sure we both made the right choice with Brown. He seems to out perform most if not all other SP in his price range.

One thing I noticed when trying to figure out his secret to success is that he's #5 in MOVvL and #20 vR for RHP. He's got much more even splits than pretty much any pitcher ranked above him, so he plays pretty similarly against all lineup makeups.

By the way, Spud Chandler is practically Brown's clone with -2 MOV vL, +3 MOVvR and +10 Stamina. He's pretty much never in the AH for a reason.

And Brown starts off my Playoffs in impressive fashion with a 140 pitch, 10K 4-hitter.

Damn, 7 hits, 0 runs in 17 Game 1 innings. He's going to carry me to the WS, the same as real life Padres Kevin Brown. Then probably let me down in the WS like real life Padres Kevin Brown.
