Legend Curt Schilling (98 OVR) PEAK
Crazy looking card I hadn't seen before. Owner of it asking for 800,000 start price and 1,000,000 buy now. Was this card added recently? Or just super rare?

It was just added. That's only the second one pulled as far as I know. A guy in my league pulled the first one last season.

So, approximately $450 in PP for a digital game card. OOTP must be loving their new business model.

Just saw this card in my league last night (I think it must be the first one pulled). That card is absolutely nuts and easily a top 5 pitcher in PT.

I think it is 100Pedro Martinez, this new 98 Schilling, and then the 97 Halladay. All of them are amazing cards. Congrats to anyone that pulls them.... |

I saw the card and it's pretty amazing.. the problem is Curt Schilling at his peak was not anywhere near a top 5 all time pitcher. There's so many better pitchers rated far worse. Whatever system they're using to select these attributes is awful.

His high Stuff and Control makes sense, as he was the #1 Strikeouts/Walks leader 4 years in a row. He was also pretty good at HR/9. During those years, his SO/9, BB/9, and HR/9 ranks were: 2001 - 3rd / 2nd / 34th 2002 - 1st / 2nd / 24th 2003 - 2nd / 2nd / 16th 2004 - 6th / 3rd / 6th So, assuming those 4 years make up his peak, perhaps his Movement might be a bit high (tied for 10th in the game), but 28th best Stuff and 5th best Control makes sense for someone with those peak rankings. I can't figure out if I can make Baseball Reference combine league stats for just those 4 seasons, but I'm going to bet he's #1 or close to it in SO/9 and BB/9, and has one of the best HR/9. |

![]() Honestly, I think the biggest issue with cards like this is that the game has not yet found the right balance between the ratings, with regard to both performance and to the composite OVR rating. Movement is far more important in game than intended. This explains why the predictive FIP formulas people are creating to evaluate pitchers incorporate much higher bonuses for movement than other ratings. It also explains how one of the premier pitchers in this game is merely a mid-level gold (2015 Keuchel, 86 OVR).

But it doesn't explain why pitchers like Mike Scott, Christy Mathewson, and John Smoltz keep appearing in the FIP and ERA leaderboards while Cy Blanton seems to suck. Or why Larry Dierker has success in Perfect Leagues while perfect Tom Seaver, with a nearly identical movement rating and better ratings for stuff and control, does not. |

Yeah, that and Pitcher Stamina don't seem to jive with that concept. Older batters are almost universally error prone and older SP are almost always 100+ Stamina. Maybe if I dug into the numbers more, it would make sense. Perhaps the old-timers are forced to play with their old gloves
