Prospect development
Hi. I drafted Joe Sakic in 1987. At the time he was drafted he had 0.5 star ability and 4.5 star potential. Upon drafting him, I immediately sent him to my AHL minor-league affiliate. One year later he is still only at 0.5 stars. Should his star rating have improved by now? Is this the proper way to develop such a player?
Also, the only players on my minor-league affiliate team’s roster are the few players I have drafted. It’s not a complete team. And, when I click on my minor-league affiliate I can’t find any indication of how the team is doing, no record, schedule, stats, etc. Am I responsible for staffing the entire minor-league team and if so, why does my team only have a few players on it? Thanks! MB19 is online now Report Post |

Some things do not exist or work the same in historical as it does with modern day setting. For starters, your AHL affiliate or minor team will not play games that you can see, so icing a full team for it would not be necessary. If you hover over a player you will see that it generates stats so it can give you roughly a good idea of how the player is "doing", but ignore the PIM stat as there is a bug with the amount of generated PIMs in non playing or non existing leagues where players accrue too much (that was mentioned by a dev a while back). As for Sakic's development, make sure you have an assistant coach set to do the training, with good ratings. Just having the assistant coach is not enough, you need to assign him to the desired trainings. Players can sometimes take a season or two to develop. Also make sure you check the monthly reports to see the progress of the player. A guy like Sakic should have a bunch of "+" in a lot of categories. If you see barely any growth there, you might want to check your assistant coach. |

-I set the training myself, which is confusing. I can only add training for players on my NHL team - not for prospects. How to I set it so that an assistant takes over the training? Also, when I do set training, it only seems to last for a few games, then when I go back to the "training" screen all the training check-boxes have reverted to unchecked. -Re Sakic, I don't see the "+" to which you are referring. Could you please elaborate? Thank you! |

If it helps, I think I am in Historical Challenge Mode (?). I chose the NY Islanders 1983-1984 season (drive for 5th cup). I'm now several seasons in. I've acquired some great talent so hope I haven't messed up their development too badly. |
