For those who grumble about packs:

Last night, I decided to open a pack rather than hit the auction house. WTH? I only had about 1100 points. Rolled the dice and got Luis Severino as my equivalent of a September call up! Geeked! Exactly what I needed.

If it happened every day, it wouldn't be a big deal...but it happened when I needed it.

Sometimes you have a big string of bad luck. Other times you have like one of my teams, which opened ~13 packs over the past few days, and drew Snell, Strasburg, Griffey, Yastrzemski Diamonds, not to mention as Sam Crawford and Youkilis Gold cards. It's definitely been a good week for them!

Congrats...though I must say I'm a bit envious. I view the packs as a lark...like buying a lottery ticket. Win some, lose some. The joy is in the journey.

I play the fifa ultimate team mode. opening packs are not exciting at all. i can pack gold cards that are all over 83, and they are all useless for my team.

In this though, if I get a special silver card, I might actually use him on my team. every gold card is worth checking out. At least for me. (im still in bronze league)

Like I said...

Win some...lose some. There could just as easily have been a Mookie in here.

This is my standard pack, I started a team again and raised 12K PP initially and then 2K PP from players who didnt sell the first time round. I received 1 Gold (Jose Altuve), 1 Silver (Kyle Freeland), 16 Bronze. In the Bronze I received 3 x Suzuki.

This team is going to be made from packs only so it fulfils the need to open packs but to say I wasnt impressed is an understatement!

The odds are set up that most of us will lose some far, far more often than we win some.

And no, there could not "just as easily" been a Mookie in there since diamond pulls from packs are much rarer then a bronze (which is guaranteed) or common.

I liked that Matt Harvey card, just thinking, the Mets finally did something right. I bought a pack today and got a Zack Wheeler and a 1969 Larry Dierker, placed them in the rotation immediately.

I had a little pack burst to add some excitement from my middling team... 8,000 PP spent on 8 packs... pulled a Josh Donaldson on about pack 4 and the in pack 5 out came Vida Blue... sold donaldson for the default 4,000 PP and kept Blue in the roster... PP well spent in this case given Blue was going for around 10k-15k PP in the AH.

On another team I spent 5,000 on 5 packs and got Luis Severino as well and not much else. So pretty much evens there as could've bought him for around 4,000-5,000 I expect in the AH.

Must be my lucky week, just spent 2,000 on packs, yep just 2 packs and and inside the 2nd pack a Mike Trout perfect card. I can't use him on this team as this is a 'non Live' team so straight to the AH, at least I know I'll have a minimum 20,000 PP to play with

And yes, my first ever perfect card, including the beta as well - my fingers were super crossed for a historical perfect, but hey 20,000 PP from 2,000 spent I can't complain.

I sold off one of my excess Gold outfielders for ~8k last night and bought 8 packs... ended up getting a perfect Jonny Bench!

It kind sucks because I literally just trained up Donaldson to Catch.... but FINALLY A PERFECT

My team that drew 4 diamonds last week drew 3 more with the packs bought from selling Griffey (1 dup but still). Crazy luck they had. Then they opened another 7 or 8 packs last night and only got one player of any value (Houck). Hopefully their pack luck isn't done.

Hen for giggles I bought one pack for my top squad, and first card was Treinen! I had just bought him last week, but still, damn nice card to open.

You all are doing a heck of a job selling people on packs in this thread.

Oh no... I've opened at least 150 packs with a combo real money and earned PP and I've only opened One Perfect and... maybe 4 diamonds?

It's not worth the time unless you really enjoy the game.

More than 240 packs opened and still no perfect ... I guess that I will reach 300 mark and then I will get "lucky" and draw some live perfect I could buy for 20k from AH...

The drop rates of 100 and Diamonds overall and then the ratio of Live v historical cards must be changed in OOTP20.

There is nothing wrong with the drop rate--- it's the price of a pack that should fluctuate, so that it is break even expectation, if the cards are sold at market prices. That would require an internal program to monitor the market value of each card to determine the fair price of a pack.

I am baffled why it should be a break even expectation? That would mean people could just constantly churn card and packs until they got lucky and pulled a diamond or Perfect.

Lather rinse and repeat and everyone has a stacked team with very little investment. That would not be a very smart business move on the devs part.

Not to mention that the market for golds and below would crater as everyone just sold them back to earn enough to buy another pack and get another shot at a perfect.
