How Would You Spend 300K PP?
Hello everyone,
I got extremely lucky and packed perfect Dwight Gooden last night, and sold him this morning for 300K. I am a little unsure what to do now, as my strategy thus far was to just continue to reinvest in packs. My team is all diamond starters (pretty much all MLB Live cards) and for what it's worth, they have underperformed pretty much every season except for one. I am looking for advice on how to upgrade my team from here and would love some feedback or thoughts from you guys. ------------------------------------------ The options I've considered: 1. Buy 4-5 great diamond players. Something along the lines of a 98 Ruth, 96 Honus Wagner, 94 Lefty Grove, 96 John Smoltz, 97 Randy Johnson. Doesn't have to be those players exactly, but players of those caliber that add up to the 300k. 2. Buy Future Legend perfect Ohtani and a Perfect Barry Bonds. This one would be possible if I sold Gavvy Cravath (my LF). I am an Angels fan and have been eyeing this card for a long time (even though the stats aren't great on it) 3. Upgrade my roster with alot of small upgrades. I would be sticking to players in the 15K-30K range and just try to upgrade as much of my team as I could from the MLB Live cards to more Historical Legends, Record Breaker, PEAK cards. 4. Open 300 packs. Because I have a gambling addiction. (Help me please) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of course I could do a mixture of these things as well. I appreciate any feedback or advice you have for me, and also would appreciate suggestions on players that have done well for you to look into buying as well. Thanks for reading and have a great day! |

It sounds like you want the Ohtani. If that card would bring you happiness, then I'd recommend getting it. Then again, I value happiness over winning, even if this is a potential violation of the game's TOS
![]() Otherwise though, I would look for value on clear, definitive upgrades to your team. There is no compelling reason to overspend for any one card or multiple cards. Similarly, if you're projecting a player to be only a little bit better, then there is a decent chance the upgrade will wind up not being worth the cost. Do all you can to guarantee the upgrades are meaningful. |

#4 should never be the option.
I'd probably be looking at #3 myself but that is just me. I feel that 10 smaller upgrades may help me more than 1 or 2 huge upgrades. |

My dilemma is that each year it seems to vary which players underperform for me. I'm also not the best at determining what makes a player "good" and what ratings to look for when trying to buy cards. It's part of the reason why I've stuck to opening packs until now

Personally, if I got lucky like this, I'd probably do a few things:
1. Target a few guys in that 15-30k range to buy outright. Guys like Pedro, Johnson, Trout, Betts etc... If you have the points, they're worth it over the "regular" Diamond players, but they're not going to blow your budget. Maybe 5 guys at 30k apiece? 2. Spend ~50k opening packs. I would consider pushing this higher, since opening packs are fun, and with that many packs, your odds of getting top or useful cards become pretty solid. Another option would be to buy one of the really sweet high diamonds, and use the rest for smaller purchases. Like, that 1921 Babe Ruth going for 140k right now is pretty damn sweet, and okay, maybe not as good as the perfect Bonds card, but I'll take Ruth + 100k in packs over Bonds anyday. But I'm no expert player, so this might not be the "optimal" way to spend the points. |

I wouldn't do small upgrades because you'll just want to upgrade them again later. This is your one chance to go big, unless you plop down $200. All you have to do is wait a week or two and earn enough PP to buy Sale, Betts, Trout, deGrom. But you'd have to wait months to be able to buy a 100K+ card.

I'd have to second the get perfect Ohtani advice. If its a card you will enjoy having on your team and this is a guarantee you can get it, go for it! In addition, as someone who had spent 200k on packs and got 2 perfect live cards (Betts/Degrom), I'd advise against that route, but clearly your luck is better than mine so who knows lol. Finally, you can get some real studs in the 50-75k range, I'd say after you get any cards you're dying to get, look at that level of player. You can likely get a couple and they will stay with you even after you get to perfect.

I appreciate your advice and think I will do a few small upgrades as well. I'm looking into the lower diamond (93 or 94 cant remember) Lefty Grove, the 97 Randy Johnson, For what it's worth, I've bought alot of PP and was overdue for a good pull. Actually on Christmas opened 100 packs and apart from a perfect Mike Trout, I only got 2 other Gold cards and no Diamonds. Thank you for answering and your work on the game! Makes me so happy to see the developers interacting with users on a daily basis! Really looking forward to OOTP 20

That 96 Ruth card that's in the Auction House has a BIN below it's average and by my analysis, would be a marginal worse hitter than Perfect Bonds vs. RHP, and much better vs. LHP. I'd start with a Ruth+Trout+Betts outfield and you'll have about 140K left to spend.

I would go with Ohtani also. Make yourself happy! It's a good card. I would also buy a starting pitcher upgrade (somebody to head your rotation) and a position player (many good options) that would qualify as the best on your team (whatever position you need). If you have anything left, buy packs and satisfy that itch too.
My advice is don't be in a big hurry to spend it. Shopping is half the fun and every 1000 points you save is another pack at the end. |

Awesome! I'd rank that Ruth 3rd behind Perfect Ruth and Perfect Bonds for hitting and only second to Perfect Ruth vs. LHP (Bonds at 35th on my list).

Yelich has been consistently good for me, so I'm hesitant to move him right away. I kept him in LF and put the Ruth at DH for right now, which pushed Jose Ramirez out to become a backup utility player. I also pushed out my Lindor with the Honus Wagner I bought. I have a few options on who I could sell to upgrade to Betts. Thanks again for the response! |

Unfortunately I'm a very impulsive spender and did end up getting a 98 Ruth and a 96 Honus Wagner already. I still have around 90k left, which should be enough to get the Ohtani when someone puts him back on the market! I'm trying to figure out who to sell now, as I have a plethora of utility players on my bench! After buying Ohtani, the extra players I have will turn into funding for pack openings ![]() Thanks again for the response! |

Mapping that out made me realize I could use a new 1B. I was playing Ed Delahanty there for a while because I loved his hitting ratings, but he didn't play super well for me unfortunately. Who would you recommend at 1B? I could also probably upgrade my Catcher position at some point, but Manny Sanguillen has done fairly well for me thus far. |
