I woke up this morning to the revelation that my team is in a slump. Yep, that's it. Every move I make seems to make it worse, so I think the best approach is to do nothing until they come out of it. If they never do, I will be relegated and I can start to rebuild with a better idea of what it takes to compete at this level. This year is an experience year... an adjustment year... yeah, I just gotta keep telling myself that.
I am still confused by Musial though. His ratings are good but, like the 96 Pedro before him, he just doesn't perform for me. He didn't tear up diamond level either, although he did end up with 2.3 WAR as a DH. Maybe he was just in a slump or a victim of quick analysis with a small sample size, or he just needs time to adjust to the higher competition, or maybe he just can't handle the higher competition in spite of the fact that players with lesser ratings are doing fine... or maybe these players aren't real people at all and this is the result of a random number generator that is treating me like bad dice at the craps table. Wow, what a league this is! It has me talking to myself. |

Wow I just saw someone buy Pedro’s perfect card for 850000 points. That is over 4 hundred dollars. I am so jealous.😍

Well my friend, I will be right there with you when this is over. I was hoping to create a huge lead Wednesday and Thursday to compensate for Friday and Saturday but that seems very unlikely with Everett leading our Division. His lifetime winning pct is .713 and he shows no sign of letting up at all. He has a great team and knows how to manage them so I would need a few injuries on his team but as you know that won’t happen. I might have a chance to tweak some Friday but Saturday will be a total lost day.(Maybe) My wife’s birthday is Friday so I might have to spend some time with her but Saturday her Mother is throwing a afternoon evening party for her and I have not figured out a way to dodge that one. So even a Wild card (Which I hate because of the one game series) seems bleak at the moment. We have some great teams like Toronto and Monroe going after the Wild Card also. I feel there is no way to just set a lineup and go out dancing if you expect to beat those teams out of a birth. I have to tweak my team daily and sometimes series to series to compete with you guys up here. To me this is not a set and go League.

My pitching is killing me this season. The whole starting staff except Brown are pitching like Bronze League cellar dwellers.

I totally agree with you. Last season also. It must be this damn perfect league? Just when I think I know what I am doing ....WHAM....They all get shelled from starters to relievers...😱

If I could just have one shutdown pitcher. In the other leagues we could have them but here? Maybe that Pedro card? But how many of us can afford 5 bills for it. I cannot find a ace that last. R. Johnson won the best pitcher award and MVP back to back for me in the gold and Diamond league. Here he pitches like a number 3 pitcher. He pitches great for a game or two and then gets shelled. Lol. My bull pen plays the same way. It drives me crazy.🤯

The challenge does make this league so much fun. I just wish I had a true Ace up here. 🤞

One of the most exhilarating feelings is when you download the new file and discover that you lit up perfect Pedro. Even perfect Pedro has his off-days. |

In my role as assistant GM for hitting and defense, I am pleased that 2 of my 3 "upgrades" are thriving.
Fred Lynn (95) is hitting .323/.379/.497, which is very respectable in this league. He has been working on his defense in LF, and has improved to a 50 rating in LF so far. I expect him to reach 65 or 70 eventually. Tris Speaker (94) is hitting .333/.403/.611, which is quite pleasing. As mentioned earlier, he is not happy to be playing RF, and he has only achieved a 35 rating in RF to date. But with that slash line, I can afford to be patient with his defense. He should rate 65 in RF in due time. My final "upgrade," Nomar Garciaparra at 2B, has been a disaster so far. He is hitting worse than Lindor, and, of course, is fielding worse while he learns the position. I'm going to end this experiment, and bring back Lindor for the remainder of the season, as he can at least accumulate some WAR with his 80 fielding at 2B. Yes. I was sort of prepared for that after season 4 in diamond (when there was no perfect level yet). But I thought I had upgraded enough since then to at least be .500 in this league. Right now, I am more concerned about avoiding relegation. Having fun though.
