How About Some News About OOTP20
The new baseball season will soon be here... it would be nice to know some of the new features for OOTP20.
As usual, since OOTP3, my pet peeves are News Stories and PBP... I hope Markus will work on them this year and expand the variety in them... also hope Markus will work on the Hard Code and perfect it with more variety in the PBP... I will be glad to give Markus 20 or 30 ways to give the final score at the end of a game in the PBP so they are not so redundant... or 20 ways to describe a lopsided win at the end of a game. The game recaps really need some work... the format needs to be revised... many times the key hit of the game is not mentioned or the key player in the game... or the wrong player is spotlighted. I wish they would make reference to the teams position in the standings (first place New York, last place Miami)... indicate winning streaks and losing streaks. One major request: Wish that the News would stop highlighting shutouts, cycles, 5-hit games and such in "individual" News stories and include them in the game recaps. And several minor requests: How about using the team managers' names in the PBP? How about giving the "league name" of each All-Star team when giving the score in the All-Star Game PBP? Sorry, didn't mean to vent so much. Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-03-2019 at 01:27 AM. |

I'd be happy with some more 3D upgrades and improved play-by-play. BUT most importantly, keep improving that AI, baby! Smarter AI general manager and in-game managing is the heart of the game.
This game has outstripped anything I could ever have imagined when I became a sim-baseball hobbyist in the early 80s. My dream is to one day play against an AI that truly challenges a human without the human having to play with house rules (for instance I put a hard salary cap on my team, inflate the AI's revenue, play stats only and give the AI 28-man rosters to my 25, etc etc.) Last edited by highandoutside; 01-03-2019 at 03:46 PM. |

Agree with the comments above, but my top priority is game stability. I have had a fatal crash in a custom League two years in a row. Thank goodness for backups.
One small request I make each year is sortable stats at the team level within each league.

i'd like to know what is going to happen with the historical play. i've sort of gone away from playing historical, due to the under-rating of the Negro League Players as a AAA level. Instead i've gone fictional, where i hand enter all the NL players and assimilate them into my game that way. Would love to see that elevated to ML in quality and stature.

The AI is the most important thing to keep improving at this point. It's good, but it could be better.

Maybe a way to turn on and off per accomplishment? As an aside, I still haven't pitched a no-no or perfect game with the teams I've controlled. Came within ONE OUT of a no-no twice last year but no dice. I've played out 12 seasons so far, each game.

I think that improvements to online league play would be a good investment. Online leagues are the heart of this game, and that’s where the most enjoyment can be had as it enhances the social aspect of the game. The community that’s grown out of online leagues can grow further by making online play better, adding more tools, etc.

I'm not concerned very much about the release date... I think the last few years it comes out at the beginning of the regular season. I would just like to know some of the new features that will be in OOTP20. It would be nice to know what areas of the game have been improved or expanded. |

Personally I now tend to play out a good number of my games in 3-D and would love to see that as well as the PBP improved in 20.

I really wish there would be a seamless integration between PC and tablets (iOS and Android). Being able to play the same save on multiple device would really be a plus.

I just hope the entire development cycle wasn't spent on Perfect Team when OOTP player development, especially of pitchers, is so fundamentally inaccurate as to make the game unplayable.
I've posted this graph previously in the development settings thread. It shows the percentage of pitchers, by age, who pitched 40+ innings in a season in real life (average taken from from 2016, 2017, and 2018) vs the OOTP output from a long term fictional league (also a three year average) with default development settings and feeder league draftees only. ![]() OOTP pitchers are about 2 years older than their real life counterparts. This cannot be fixed by altering the development settings because the feeder leagues are broken, as documented in another multi page thread. OOTP is producing far too many high school draftees by default. Almost exactly the inverse of real life, which from 2015-17, was 63% college, 26% high school, 10% junior college and a handful of others. If you try to fix that by creating more college feeder teams than high schools, you'll get to many MLB ready 21/22 year old college seniors, which in turn throws off the age distribution above. This is a glaring issue which I really hope is addressed in OOTP20. Maybe once a month I pick the game up thinking there's a way to solve with the in game settings only to waste hours simming in circles. |

Unplayable because of that?? Sorry but that seems like a bit of a stretch.
How about the missing luxury tax system which is currently changing the whole economy of MLB. |

While I wouldn't go anywhere near the term "unplayable", the biggest problem I've seen in my fictional leagues is that there are TOO MANY RP and CL pitchers. Every draft, FA list, trading block, and waiver wire. Seems like pitchers are a 5 to 1 ratio with position players, and hardly any qualify for a SP.

I just re-read my comment above and realized the phrasing was pretty poor, so I wanted to clarify...I don't think the luxury tax thing missing makes the game unplayable either, not by a long shot. Would be nice tho
