Start Date Options

Hey,

I’m not sure if this is the right section to post this in.
I previously asked which pro league (turned out to he Korean league) would give me the earliest start date for the 2018 season.

Which brings me to my next question:
Am I alone in wanting to be able to take over a team from the day after the previous WS took place? For example, in next years game, take over before this offseason happens - so we can have the Harper, Machado, etc. free agency, but with 2018 regular season results? So like maybe have the season start date options as before FA, before spring training, etc.

predate for historic sim and sim forward to day one of offseason, workaround only of course. then take control. various drawbacks.. believe ratings are different calculations due to historic sim? plus, your "last" year will be different from reality too.

much better with a fictional league... no drawbacks to the workaround. can erase history etc.

i would prefer dayh one of offseason too. however, i think we are a minorty. anyone that clamors for a roster update midseason is not in favor of this sort of thing,or they just don't care for consistent thought, lol. most want the most up-to-date even if it's in the 'future' relative to day one.

I may try the fictional league option, thank you for the suggestions.

From a development standpoint, I’m not even going to pretend like I know if it would be easy to include this feature or not. Hoping it will be considered one day in the future though!

This has been asked for before. I am not against the option to start then or at another time. I would love to be able to start at the beginning of spring training.

I am a programmer, and would not think it would be that difficult to have a option to start at any time, unless you wanted to start in the middle of the season. At least in the off-season I would not think programmatically it would be difficult. Obviously I do not know exactly how OOTP was programmed, but from a logical standpoint, does not seem that difficult. Would think pretty much just set the start date, any events before would have occurred, and after would be yet to occur.

Where the issue may be is with the rosters. The roster team would have to have multiple roster sets with the rosters up to date for 2 different points time. That may be too much work for the team that does the rosters to do this, managing 2 roster sets. Just speculating, but that may be what precludes them from ever doing this.

If you only have one choice most people, including myself, would probably prefer an opening day start.

that could all be kept incrementally as time passes. i assume this is already done. they don't delete old roster sets.

it's continuously updated, so plan the 'releases' of rosters around such RL contexts. consilidate info on day 1 of offseason, take a snapshot. consolidate info for release, take a snapshot. consolidate info for suptember roster update, take a snapshot. obviously 2 of those events are already done now.

alternatively, same work as now -> eliminate the september 1st update that makes no sense for an opening day roster and move that action to the end of season. all other things remain same in product cycle. include the extra roster template for next year's release. whether more popular or not, it makes more sense, lol. e.g. it was once popular to believe the world was flat and to say otherwise meant a violent end for that person, lol..

i think if people tried it, they'd like it. you get to have FA instant gratification without playing an entire season. i always hate my local teams' moves. not because of who they don't get, but how they waste their money on pipedreams. who wants to move to detroit? lol, i understand that is a reality.

Yeah, I’m certainly not suggesting a one or the other scenario. Just as an added option.
Whether it was Eric Hosmer last year, Ian Desmond the year before.. I can’t be alone in wanting to get rid of those new contracts ASAP!

Really though, I think especially with this offseason having such good free agents, it would be awesome to be able to start from the beginning of the offseason. (Not that I love the result of the 2018 postseason, but it’s something I have to live with )

I would prefer to start the day after the world series if it was an option. I think that's more realistic too, where gms are changed early in the off-season.

Yeah, it’s kinda tough to rebuild a roster between March 28 - April 1..
