Online mode ratings theories
I've been playing online for about 18 months now and, along with some other members in my league, have developed some theories about little ratings tricks within in the game (or at least our file). Some examples:
- When Gap Power overall is > Gap Power potential, players tend to develop beyond their potential
- When a prospect's changeup is extremely underdeveloped, it's likely to not develop at all.
- When Gap Power is high, batting averages tend to stay more consistent from year to year
- In OOTP 19 specifically, HR Power seems to matter more for generating runs, even when OBP is relatively low
Those are just a few examples, and they are pretty much all anecdotal theories. I have no tangible evidence, only what I noticed when spending time in the game.
What I'm curious about it: Do you have any theories/tips you've noticed over the years? Have you noticed things that would back up or go against what I've written above? I'm curious to get a sense of what the community thinks on this — hopefully this will be an interesting thread going forward.
