Hall of Fame

This time of year is HoF season with the voting going on and it always gets me excited. Just wanted to ask you all, at one point in a league do you feel it’s best to open a Hall of Fame and allow voting? I’ve heard many say the longer you wait the better but I wonder about the pros and cons of it all. I’m in year 13 of my fictional league and was initially going to open it the earliest I could at year 15. I think I might rather try to hold off until year 30 so there’s more drama as to who gets in every year, as painful as that would be to wait haha. So basically what have you guys found works and what hasn’t?

I play fictional leagues only, and always wait 40 years before opening the HOF for voting.

I also have a strict threshold for entry, 90%, dropped below 20%. Only the very best get in my HOF.

Interesting, how have your results been? Do the right players get in to your opinion and is there at least some drama as to who might make it? Was there too much of a backlog?

Having the min set to 20% will eliminate the backlog easily. In my modern MLB league, I set it to 90% required for entry, drop below 20%, and only 5 names on the ballet.

I guess my hope is I can have the perfect balance of not too few and not too many every year. Is the AI pretty good about selecting strong players deserving?

i have mine set at 2% before being dropped and remaining on ballot for 20 years. if a player I like doesn't make the cut on his own and I think he HOF worthy then I will act as a ERA HOF commission and elect him in (only done once) However I have noticed after 50 plus seasons HOF gets weaker just like in real life. Amazing how close to realism game is to real life.
